Who Is The Real Legacy Candidate?

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Now that our primary election is over and it is into the real election, I would like to talk about a couple things that have bothered me over the past couple months.

First I want to address the comment, "I am not a fan of Legacy Candidates, so I am voting for Sam." While it is easy to see that Meghan George has the same last name as her father, Mayor Tom George, I would like to ask, how many of you think and act just like your dad or mom? OR are you more likely to think and act like the people you have surrounded yourself with as an adult?

Meghan George had a father that was Mayor over a decade ago, a Mayor that led Lakewood through a peaceful era after our last civil war, ironically brought on by many of the same people that brought Lakewood Hospital down. He has not handed anything over to Meghan. She earned every inch of it.

Which brings us to Sam O'Leary, the true legacy candidate. Sam, from the moment he entered politics back in high school, has been groomed and had doors opened for him by Ed FitzGerald, Mayor Summers and others in the FitzGerald machine. So that the legacy they have created for over a decade could retain the seat of Mayor for their people, approved and selected by "Friends of FitzGerald" and "Friends of Summers." To make sure their hidden plans can be fulfilled, and the city can be handed over for pennies to developers in their circle if not to FitzGerald himself. In other words to keep the fleecing of Lakewood going, and in secret.

Look at Sam's meteoric rise to the top. Now tell me 5 things this rise was based on. Yeah, it gets tough doesn't it.

Well here is one reason for Sam's rise to the top. It is also a huge pat on the head for their legacy candidate...

If you are not a fan of Legacy Candidates...

My opinion, which matters not at all, is:
No one connected with the debacle called "One Lakewood" Strip Mall should ever hold office, or be allowed near any of the funds that came out of the secret liquidation of Lakewood's largest and most important asset.

Beyond a shadow of a doubt, we have had the worst mayors (FitzGerald/Summers) in Lakewood's history, secretly commit the worst deal in any city in Ohio's history. While working in secret to decide Lakewood's political future too?! All of it behind the curtain while consolidating power, money and legacies.

Lakewood needs to clean house, and start fresh. That is how bad it really is.

Lakewood, don't be played again.

Vote for sunshine, vote for a positive future, and do not support secret legacy government.

Russo=Dimora=Fitzgerald=Budish=Summers=O’Leary

You’re voting for the same old corrupt and inept Dem machine candidate. Don’t kid yourself that the kid is any different.

He grew up sucking on that teat.

Out of town interests are behind O’Leary.

Watch for his campaign reports.

It disappoints me a little to see Dan O'Malley on these lists. I think he's better than that but I could be wrong.

Mr. Alaimo,
I feel your little disappointment. It's tough.
I mean, who could have seen this coming.
You think he's better than that. I get it. Good enough for me. Well, not really.
I guess you could be wrong. But it would be uncool to re-think Dan O'Malley. So let's never go there.
A nagging thought. And I apologize for voicing it, but if I'm Tom Bullock I'm thinking WTF. I get hammered and this guy is Teflon.
It's good to be Dan O'Malley in Lakewood.
No serious questions asked. No serious questions answered.

Mark, I don't think you will ever agree, but Dan O'Malley is a good and effective council person, city wide but especially for his ward. He took a couple of tough votes during the hospital debacle, but I have moved on and am now looking forward to a George administration where I hope Dan will shine. When I say I have moved on, I know we can't do anything about the rubble at Belle and Detroit, but we can insist on justice for those who raided the coffers of our city. The "mixed-use" development is not built yet, and maybe there is still a way to do something better with that land (ie Sherwin Williams). We will see what Dan does when the Summers gang is gone, but a) I am hopeful, and b) I was discouraged seeing him line up with the mayor and Sam O'Leary.

Dan,
Fair enough.
