PD article on suburban restaurants lists worst 25 offenders. Of that 25, 10 are in Lakewood.

Not making excuses for anyone. But this was taking care of for years by the Lakewood Health Department, that was very tough on restaurants and food licenses , but also worked hand in hand with owners to make sure they maintained good space. Ed FitzGerald ended that with the dismantling of the Health and Human Services Department, and turning restaurant inspections over to the county, that is admittedly understaffed.

The perfect storm, tons of restaurants and no one really keeping a close eye on them. Bad habits get worse, and then it all falls apart.

it would be 11 if you counted Pepper's, which was listed in the top 40 of Cuyahoga County just last month.. My favorite item from their latest inspection was about a cockroach found in a container of salad dressing. It was noted that the owner discarded the dressing without having to be asked . . . .PHEW!!

Let's call it 9.5 Lakewood restaurants.

El Torito - Lakewood - closed in big cocaine bust, changing ownership.

Bobby O's - about to be leveled for condos.

Still was an amazing read.
