According to the Master Agreement "All" the ssets of the LHA were to be transferred to the Cleveland Clinic except for the $35 million or so that was donated to the Three Arches Foundation.
Apparrently there was a secret agreement that transferred a few miilion to the NEW LHA.
How many other secret slush funds are out there?

It does seem irregular.Bill Call wrote:According to the Master Agreement "All" the ssets of the LHA were to be transferred to the Cleveland Clinic except for the $35 million or so that was donated to the Three Arches Foundation.

But not surprising given the history.

I suppose it is better to try to deal with the consequences of "changing healthcare" than ignore them. But given the limitations of the service area, this may not be enough. So many specialists have very limited (or no) hours off main healthcare campuses. Providers that are in demand call their own shots when it comes to their schedule and practice location. And this won't even get patients to the new facility in Avon built on our backs. Sorry Lakewood, but it seems you've been red-lined.

Recently, a knowledgeable souce (ie a former clinic doc) told me there are two Cleveland Clinics: the main campus with all the specialists and "world class care" and the Clinic for everyone else with average care, at best.

My experiences, mostly at Main, were abysmal. Incompetence, overtreatment, lack of proper procedures to prevent contamination, I could go on and on.Dan Alaimo wrote:Recently, a knowledgeable souce (ie a former clinic doc) told me there are two Cleveland Clinics: the main campus with all the specialists and "world class care" and the Clinic for everyone else with average care, at best.
World class care, my a$$.
The only thing they are number one in is the amount of the bill - their prices are 5 times what another facility would charge.

With a few exceptions, which one would expect anywhere, my experiences at Metro has been well above average.

Inquiry to Readers
I would appreciate any comments that long-time resident can make about when and why Lakewood closed its Health Department.
Thanks!

Lakewood's Health Dept. was closed in the first year of Ed FitzGerald's administration. This was supposed to be a cost cutting measure. However, the County Board of Health to which the responsibilities were transferred charges back to a municipality a per capita charge so any savings were minimal.

Did that have a negative effect on our understanding of lead-based impacts to Lakewood residents or lead abatement efforts?

When my daughters were little, in the 1990s, there was a health department office in what is now Cotton where I took them for regular lead testing. I had a friend whose son's level was high and they did a home evaluation to determine the cause and she needed to remove her kitchen cabinetry and change our her windows. I get the impression they no longer provide this service for residents.Mark Kindt wrote:Did that have a negative effect on our understanding of lead-based impacts to Lakewood residents or lead abatement efforts?

The attached PDF from the city website is very interesting. This is a topic of recent discussion.Kate McCarthy wrote:When my daughters were little, in the 1990s, there was a health department office in what is now Cotton where I took them for regular lead testing. I will withhold comment at this time, until I learn more.

Keeping It Very Simple Today
Lakewood City Administration:
Children affected by lead -- City Health Department dismantled.
Adults without transportation or mobility for healthcare -- Centrally-located City Hospital demolished -- Centrally-located Office Building full of independent physicians, guess what? Demolished.

Someone asking on the real Lakewood page for primary care physician recommendations.
If you need a regular primary care doc, you’re going to River, Westlake, or further
