It's Fish Fry Time Again!

Post by Gary Rice »

Good Friends in Lakewood Land.

During this time of Lenten introspection, one thing that you can rely on would be the return of Fish Fry season. Hopefully, those in Lakewood who are involved with fish fry events will post notices here.

The Lakewood Masonic Temple Friday Fish Fry will continue, (roughly 4:30-8:00) and will feature an informal singer/songwriter open mike format, (depending on who shows up) so if you happen to sing and strum, bring your instrument and quite likely, there will be an opportunity to show the audience what you can do! Plenty of parking around back. Enter rear Andrews Ave. entrance. No steps!

Hope to see you there! :D

Other players and singers welcome too!

Hope to see you there! :D

Well, I suppose it's time to bump this back up to the top of the 'Deck again.

Our Friday Fish Fry at Lakewood Masonic Temple has quite frankly in my opinion, been the best attended one we've ever had. It's already been a huge success, and while there have been plenty of people coming, we've never been so crowded that you had a really long line or did not get served promptly.

We've been fortunate as well with getting volunteer musicians each week, and the building tours continue.

If you've never seen the Lodge room at Lakewood Temple, or the multi-story marble staircase, you've missed a whole bunch of great history. This building really is a Lakewood treasure.

I'm surprised that others have not posted their fish fry events here, so I'll just mention that I did see that the St. James Fry is underway, as is the one at nearby St. Marks and also, at St. Mary's on Warren Rd..

Please remember that groups holding fish fry nights are comprised of dedicated volunteers hoping to raise funds for worthy causes. These are your neighbors who care and share. Why not join them and celebrate the positive stuff going on in our community! :D

Good friends in Lakewood Town:

Bringing this back to the top again... 8)

If you think that things sometimes get fishy in this town, and if you're a conspiracy theorist and think that the Freemasons are behind stuff like this, in this case, you'd be right!

At least on Friday nights during Lent! Fish and Freemasons, how cool is that?

Hope to see you this week at the fish fry at Lakewood Masonic Temple for good fish and fellowship. Good live music too, tomorrow being a folk music event. Come sing, strum, or slurp that coffee down, as we all have a good time together. Take a tour of the Temple too, if you have a mind to do so. Check out the WAY cool architecture and history!

Good Friends in Lakewood Land...

I was told that last week was the Temple's most successful fish fry week ever!

Thanks for supporting the Temple! :D

So.....I need to remind you all again about the Friday Lenten fish fry at the Lakewood Masonic Temple from 4:30-7:30.

Good food, fellowship and music. Hoping to have the well known husband/wife singing duo Rick and Cindy Benjamin with us tomorrow for music. You may remember that they helped me do "One Shovel Wide" on video for Lakewood's snow shoveling efforts.

Hoping to see you all there. :D

Good Friends in Lakewood Land,

First and foremost, a warm thank you and shout out to everyone who in one way or another, supported ALL of our local fish fry events here in Lakewood and in nearby communities. Whether you were a worker or an eater, (or in my case, both! :D ) much good was done, and many dollars were raised for the various good causes.

Particularly, the members and leadership of Lakewood Masonic Temple would like to thank you all for supporting what I think may well have been our most successful year ever. :D

From the standpoint of fund raising, this is always nice, but our Masonic community has always set our sights much higher. To be a Mason, one must first believe in God, and serving others. Masons won't tell someone HOW to believe in God. We are not a religion, but rather a fraternity of God-respecting people. Masons individually have their own beliefs in God, as their own faith traditions have taught them. People of many faiths are therefore members of Freemasonry. They are also generally very active in their churches, synagogues,or other faith traditions, and in the life of their community.

Masons historically leave their particular political or religious opinions at the door of the Lodge, so as to discover what well-meaning people can do together when they are not fighting about their differences. Shriners (an organization comprised of Masons) have their many hospitals supporting burned or orthopaedically impaired children. The Masonic Knights Templar offers free trips to the Holy Land for pastors, as well as having a charitable eye foundation. Other Masonic groups support diabetes research and many other worthwhile endeavors.

Musicians from Mozart, to me :D have been Masons, and indeed, music was a big part of our fish fry events. This year we had a little bit of everything from live classical to jazz, to folk, country, and of course, rock too! Some of the area's best known musicians dropped by this year for fish and fun. Thanks to all of them!

Again, thanks to you all for supporting this stunningly beautiful and historic Masonic Temple in the middle of Lakewood, with it's great ballroom used for swing and contra-dance, and for civic gatherings, church services, and many other events. For those who took the tour and saw our marble grand staircase, and the Lodge room that has been virtually unchanged for a century now, you know what a treasure we share here.

The Lodge room and Temple will again be open for your inspection during Lakewood's summer holiday event.

For those interested in membership in the Masonic family, it would first be necessary that you ask a Mason, or a member of the Eastern Star. (if you are a lady)

Masons, by an old tradition, do not ask people to be members. People who are interested in membership must take that initiative on their own.

Looking forward to seeing and serving you all at next year's fish fry! :D
