Board Selection Committee Slate

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

After over 18 months of dedicated work, Lakewood’s Foundation Planning Task Force (FPTF) has made recommendations for the future Healthy Lakewood Foundation.  The recommendations include a proposed Code of Regulations, mission and vision, and a slate of board candidates. All of these documents can be found online at onelakewood.com/wellness-foundation-task-force.

The Foundation Planning Task Force was established in 2017 to develop recommendations for a future health and wellness foundation in Lakewood, arising from the closure of Lakewood Hospital. The task force consisted of 15 volunteer residents of Lakewood. Over time, the task force consulted experts in the fields of philanthropy and health. With this information, the task force worked together to craft careful recommendations that reflect the voice of the Lakewood community. The proposal outlines a foundation that will serve the health and wellness needs in Lakewood for years to come.

The proposal is currently under review by designated regulators, including the Mayor of Lakewood, Lakewood City Council, and the Lakewood Hospital Association. Upon approval, the documents will be adopted and the Healthy Lakewood Foundation can become operational. For more information, visit onelakewood.com or call the City of Lakewood at 216-521-7580.

Thank you for posting the list Jim. Do we have a list of the people that applied for this Board? I think that a list of applicants would be interesting to compare to those chosen.

I don’t get why the woman from Onslow Vounty is on the board. Onslow County is in North Carolina!

http://www.onslowkids.org/about-us/our-staff/

What exactly is the point of that?

And her LinkedIn shows she no longer works there. Her current occupation is “self-employed” and “volunteer.”

Pam / All

I know some of the people on the list. I know some of the people that did not make this list but applied. I know two of the people that worked on the list. I mean worked real hard on the list and vetting the people on the list. Speaking for myself, at this point I am comfortable with the list and know that there are more than a couple people on it that 1) Care about Lakewood, 2) Want to see this fund managed correctly and honestly, 3) Are not easily pushed into things that would not a) make sense b) not part of their mission.

I doubt they will make the list of all that applied public, but I will ask.

For clarification purposes, just a reminder that the work of the Foundation Planning Task Force is covered by the Ohio open records laws and that the list of applicants is likely a public document subject to prompt disclosure by the City if requested.

Stan

I’d be interested in hearing why you say this.

With just a cursory look, I’d say the members are a nice cross section of age, race, and genders as well as people who have served in public and non-profit service positions. Many, if not most, are Lakewoodites.

I really don’t see anything of concern with this group, so if you know something we don’t, please say so.

I’d like to think all of these board members are fair, independent, and impartial.

Bridget-- my impulsive and initial reaction was "Rubber Stamp". You're correct in that their backgrounds cover a range of private and non profits. That only means to me that they've learned the art of getting along. I see no 51-49 votes coming out of this group-just unanimity. Stan

I realize that the die has been cast, but just to put in my two cents....

I attended one meeting of the Foundation Planning Task Force, and I clearly remember someone mentioning that there should be diversity on the board.

I know for sure - and, several FPTF members were in agreement - that having previous board experience should not be a criteria.

Diversity in education was mentioned.
I did not make a recording of the meeting, but I think, that someone mentioned that having a degree should not be a criteria.

I was also under the impression that the FPTF agreed, that the board should be made up people from all walks of life.
(Life's experiences vs. institutional education.)

Now, did people from all walks of life apply?
I have no idea.

But, in looking at this list, I’m seeing what I think that Stan is seeing.

I agree with his assessment.
