Increasing Crime Grand Theft Auto
Is crime increasing in Lakewood
Apparently there has been a rash of tire theft and auto theft
A Channel 5 reporter is doing a story on the problem in Lakewood

Worth noting auto thefts in Lakewood are half what they were ten years ago. Rates have been more or less the same annually 2014-2017. Some of this can be attributed to the fact that technology and production have simply made cars more difficult to steal - few vehicles old enough to be "hotwired" are on the road anymore. An unfortunate consequence however is that thieves have become more brazen in their efforts (carjacking, "relay" theft, etc)Bridget Conant wrote:Is crime increasing in Lakewood

Carjackings are definitely up, Dan.
What does this mean for Lakewood?

Another one on Monday, Marc's Plaza (I know this is not the official name but it's what we all call it)

I don't know if it's a trend, or within statistical norms.

Right - I'm the one who brought up carjackings. As I tried to explain in my earlier post, while car thefts as a whole have gone down over time (stagnant last few years), alarming methods like carjacking, bump-and-run, etc. are becoming more prevalent.Bridget Conant wrote:Carjackings are definitely up, Dan.

Although the trend isn't unique to Lakewood I am not satisfied with any level of crime, particularly crimes like carjackings which have a much broader impact on quality of life.

Re: Increasing Crime Grand Theft Auto
It's ironic that the current regime rose to power in 2007 by fanning crime fears.
Their internet bully created a website named "Crimewood" which depicted the city as a dystopian hell hole on the edge of destruction.
Fitzy, Bullock, Butler, Summers, Powers, etc. rode into office promising to "restore law and order" and offering plenty of dog whistle racism.
High profile murders, which had a flukish spike in 2007, reverted back to normal in 2008.
Here we are ten years later, and the same corrupt crowd is desperately trying to downplay the rising crime wave that is happening on their watch.
Bullock is so craven that he wants a promotion to State Rep.
A warning for the racist crew at City Hall.....what goes around comes around.

Ah, Crimewood, how could one forget that website, run by an angry and disgruntled person who reminded everyone on a daily basis how awful Lakewood was. Ironic, isn’t it?Michael Deneen wrote:It's ironic that the current regime rose to power in 2007 by fanning crime fears.

There's a similarity between the latest carjackings. I hope that when they catch them, it all goes away.

Third carjacking. Happened yesterday, Feb 7.
Sure makes Lakewood look undesirable.
How’s this going to impact housing prices?
If the perception that this is a ‘hood, rather than a ‘wood, no one will want to live here and your housing values will drop.
Do we need more police? That’s just a matter of more money, isn’t it?
Seems to me the mayor has his priorities a bit mixed up.
Hang on to your wallets!
