Typical Summers - Lied About Pit Bull Laws

Post by Bridget Conant »

Summers announced “the pit bull ban is no more!”

Now he’s back to his “pit bulls kill people” rhetoric after contacting PETA, the organization well known for its EMOTIONAL and RADICAL members who like publicity.

Apparently they know more about dog bites than the ASPCA, Veterinary associations, the CDC, and various Bar Organizations.

This guy is definitely living in an alternate reality.

He’s Lakewood’s own TRUMP!

Interesting group the mayor has aligned himself with.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has been described as “by far the most successful radical organization in America.” The key word is radical. PETA seeks “total animal liberation,” according to its president and co-founder, Ingrid Newkirk. That means no meat or dairy, of course; but it also means no aquariums, no circuses, no hunting or fishing, no fur or leather, and no medical research using animals. PETA is even opposed to the use of seeing-eye dogs.
PETA has even been linked to terrorist organizations. The FBI has investigated PETA.

Frankly, I’m appalled that our mayor has embraced PETA and made them part of his campaign to continue to push for breed specific laws.

He is an embarrassment to this city.

Need more? Read this Atlantic story on PETA:

Ask the mayor what PETA stands for. Bet he doesn’t even know.

Bridget

This Mayor will align himself with anyone or anything he can use, abuse or remotely agrees with him.

Not only is he an embarrassment he is turning the entire city into a laughing stock, his comments about health care, dogs, the arts, and law enforcement have made him and us look foolish.

As I posted years ago, he is destroying the Lakewood brand of intelligent, thoughtful, reasoned fun loving people not afraid to talk.

I was talking to a writer from another publication coming back, and her comment was, "What the hell has happened here?"

Summers has quickly made Lakewood a laughing stock throughout Northeast Ohio.
He is doing to Lakewood's image what Trump has done to our country's image overseas.

Here’s more info on PETA.

The head of the organization advocates for exterminating pit bull breeds.

Is there any more radical stand than that?

What a nutjob!

I've grown extremely skeptical of the motives of animal rights groups like PETA over the years. Their fundraising and fund spending tend to be suspect.

PETA supports, with money, what the US Government has termed “terrorist organizations” like the Aninal Liberation Front and the Earth Liberation Front.

They are a RADICAL group that engages in ANTI-SOCIAL behavior based on misguided EMOTION.

They are no more credible than any other fringe group.

That our mayor would rely on them to support his agenda is alarming.

Perhaps I should change the title of this post to:

MAYOR SUMMERS ALIGNS WITH TERROR/SUPPORTING ORGANIZATION TO MAKE HIS CASE.

Article on eco-terrorism.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eco-terrorism
Organizations that have been accused of eco-terrorism in the United States include the Animal Liberation Front (ALF),[3] the Earth Liberation Front (ELF),[3] Greenpeace, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Earth First!,[5] The Coalition to Save the Preserves, and the Hardesty Avengers.[3][19] In 2010, the FBI was criticized in U.S. Justice Department reports for unjustified surveillance (and placement on the Terrorism Watchlist) between 2001 and 2006 of members of animal-rights groups such as Greenpeace and PETA.[20]
The FBI continues to monitor PETA as a potential threat.

And this is who the mayor is quoting?

PETA!

fwiw I think way too many groups are assigned the terrorist label.

But even five minutes' research on PETA turns up very strange, very troubling stances and activities.

I will let everyone do their own reading in that regard. But I will mention that, in addition to all of the more general reasons that promotion of PETA as an authoritative endorsement for BSL is concerning, a PETA spokesperson has promoted the complete myth that pit bulls "lock" their jaws.

If it weren’t for the Cleveland Clinic directing the mayor on the hospital giveaway and orchestrating the entire charade, we can only imagine what he would have come up with and what ridiculous statements he would have made if it were left up to him.

He doesn’t have their expertise or savvy helping him on this BSL issue. It’s become a media nightmare for him.

The missteps and embarrassing lack of knowledge and competence is evidence of him being completely out of control. Trump the 2nd.

Too bad he wasn’t winging it like this during the hospital deal - he would have been easily conquered.

I guarantee that if PETA came out AGAINST the regulations, you all would be heralding what a great organization they are . . .

This is why people are turning away from the Deck. The majority of posts are negative, and you can sum the Deck up like this:

SUMMERS = BAD

CLINIC = BAD

GARY RICE = BANJO

It's become so one-dimensional . .

False. Dog lovers (and many animal rights groups) have been at odds with PETA for a long time.
Amy Martin wrote:This is why people are turning away from the Deck.
And yet here you are....isn't that strange?
I love that the Mayor's acolytes claim "no one reads the Deck"...when in fact THEY are our most fervent followers!
Amy Martin wrote:The majority of posts are negative,
That's because the majority of City Hall (and, more recently, School Board) decisions have been bad.
Amy Martin wrote:SUMMERS = BAD

Summers IS bad. Are we supposed to pretend otherwise?
Amy Martin wrote:CLINIC = BAD
The Clinic IS bad. JOB pretends otherwise, but the rest of us don't.

BTW, I notice that you don't address the issue at hand.
Do you agree with the Mayor's handling of this issue. What is your opinion of PETA?

PETA is an EXTREMIST organization.

They have waged outlandish protests, put human lives at risk, and advocate KILLING dogs.

In what world would their ideals and goals be considered “balanced?”

I do not think Summers is bad as much as I think he’s out of his league. He is an ineffective leader, prone to bias and single mindedness. He’s not eilling to admit he is ever wrong, won’t seek expert advice, and is insular and parochial.

He doesn’t really represent Lakewood, nor what it could be.

PETA equates female victims of rape with cows.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.huffpost ... 836a29/amp

Is this a balanced, thoughtful organization?
Ingrid Newkirk, PETA president, doubled down on the ad’s message in a statement to The Huffington Post.

“It is rape when someone sticks their hand into a vagina or rectum without permission,” Newkirk said. “Every decent person abhors and denounces sexual abuse of women but we cannot blithely accept the sexual abuse of other females who happen not to be human but have the same vulnerability to pain.”
She’s equating the artificial insemination of animals with the rape of women

How can anyone take this extremist organization seriously, much less rely on them as dog experts?
