The Bar Economy We Cultivate

Post by Bridget Conant »

We all gasped a few years back when a man was killed by a punch thrown by a Michigan man outside a Lakewood bar on Detroit.

This past weekend, another young man was sucker punched outside the Avenue Taphouse on Detroit. He was admitted to Metro in critical condition when he was found unresponsive. Police are seeking information on his assailant.

Bar fights occur quite frequently in Lakewood, and other bad behavior is noted by neighbors of bars (fights, yelling, urination, etc),

We continue to promote the bar economy as a vital part of Lakewood’s economy to the point where the West End area is touted as the “Entertainment District.”

I believe we have more bars per square mile than surrounding suburbs.

Something to think about, particularly as we proclaim ourselves the “healthiest city.”
