The Lakewood Democratic Club will meet Thursday, November 30, for a look at Civics & Civil Liberties. Our final meeting of 2017 will feature two speakers on these issues, which have been of considerable interest here.
Dr. Larry Keller is a teacher at Cleveland State University. His primary research focus is on the nexus of Public Administration, Politics and the Law at the local level. In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Keller has worked with a variety of local government bodies. He was part of the 2004 and 2014 Lakewood Charter Review Commissions (He spoke at city hall about the third amended charter, during the League of Women Voters event last month.)
Dr. Keller believes the modern city needs both effective public officials and active citizen groups. He has worked with numerous citizen and community groups, helping them to understand the governing systems of modern life and improving their interactions with government. In all of his work, Dr. Keller strives to increase the professionalism of government and the quality of life for all citizens.
Frank Kunstel has been a volunteer for the ACLU for the past fifteen years, serving as a consultant on strategic planning and also conducting speaker training for staff and volunteers on a regular basis. He has made presentations for the ACLU on the topics of national security and civil liberties, mass incarceration, and Know Your Rights.
Frank started his career as a public school teacher, and also served as President of his local teachers’ union. He then spent several years in South Carolina working in school desegregation.

P.S. As noted, this is our final regular meeting of 2017. It is actually an extra meeting, as the club has not always met in November. Interest from our community has been great this year, though, so we hope many will join us one more time for what promise to be very good presentations & discussions. In December we will have a holiday party on the 14th.

Sounds interesting and relevant.
Perhaps someone will address, with the ACLU rep, the important issue of a City Hall official run Facebook page that deletes and censors comments as well as bans users who question the site moderator (the city official.)

Reminder, this is tonight at 7. I think it will be a very good program.
