I think it speaks volumes of our leadership, while Euclid goes after amazon and gets it. a new fulfillment center with thousands of jobs and millions in taxes.

Lakewood's out-of-the-box big dreamers at City Hall and our myopic Civic leaders secretly plot for strip malls, mix use with a dry cleaner and a pet store maybe?

No worries. When "One Lakewood Place" and the CCF Fake LGBT FHC fail, Mayor Marx will proclaim "Good News---Prisons are Changing" as they relocate the Mansfield Prison here for another "$120M Investment" in Lakewood's future. In the back room, Fitzgerald, Summers, O'Leary and Bullock will enjoy the penthouse views of Lake Erie. "We will have the wealthiest inmate in America" Marx said. The "city plans" are already hidden inside the "Women Owned Business" Carnegie Dev.Jim O'Bryan wrote:I think it speaks volumes of our leadership, while Euclid goes after amazon and gets it. a new fulfillment center with thousands of jobs and millions in taxes.

Now Jim, let's be accurate. It was a pet store and an ICE CREAM SHOP.
Whoo-Hoo!
Now with considering new legislation, maybe they can get a TATTOO PARLOR, too!

An interesting take on the Cleve bid for Amazon, surprising coming from the PeeDee:

Questions about transparency and opennesss, or lack thereof, may doom the bid.
Sounds SOOOO familiar.

Any wonder no one bats at eye at the shenanigans in Lakewood? It's a Cuyahoga thing!Mayor Frank Jackson and Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish on Thursday announced the region's bid to bring Amazon's second headquarters to the city but refused to provide such basic details as where the headquarters would be.
Cities across the nation entered proposals trying to lure Amazon and its 50,000 jobs to their area, and many of those cities, such as Baltimore, released details of their bids to taxpayers. Officials here claimed that the bid contained proprietary information.
It was not immediately clear how a forward-thinking company like Amazon would weigh bids submitted under a cloud of secrecy to those laid open for public view. Amazon's owner, Jeff Bezos, also owns the Washington Post and is a big believer in openness and public records.

Bridget
If I remember correctly it was POSSIBLY a Mitchell's Ice Cream, POSSIBLY a Pet Store, and POSSIBLY a dry cleaner.
Lakewood finally gets a tattoo parlor, as the fastest growing sector of that business is removal!
Big thinking at Lakewood City Hall.

Re: Euclid, Cleveland Go After Amazon, Lakewood A Dry Cleaner And Pet Store
Have you heard the kind of square footage Amazon wants?
No way Lakewood has that kind of real estate, unless they bring back eminent domain.
Last year when the Plain Dealer called the folks at SLH "lovable losers", maybe they were really talking about our local government! (Ha!...fat chance, I know...)
Either way, the citizens of Lakewood have been on the losing end for years!
How many times have they asked the citizenry to "think big" only because they obviously can't??
Also, how many jobs is the new "development" going to bring in? Surely they have plans to replace the 1000+ jobs they GAVE AWAY!

Re: Euclid, Cleveland Go After Amazon, Lakewood A Dry Cleaner And Pet Store
The current model of economic development for the City of Lakewood is entirely unsustainable.
The City has an annual budget of around $110 million.
They are proposing to disperse more than $47 million in economic development and other programs.
1. Reportedly as high as $14 million or $15 million for the redevelopment of the defunct hospital site.
2. The new foundation is in-line for over $32 million of what used to be (or should be) public funds.
3. We still do not know whether the hospital site developer is going to receive other public incentives and how much.
Finally, this particular economic development effort has been riddled with legal improprieties that I (and others) have described elsewhere on the Deck and the LO.
It makes me curious as to just how much the City has been dishing-out over the past decade in terms of direct and indirect incentives.
