Woodward Ave

Post by todd vainisi »

Is there already a thread about the development on Woodward Avenue? I had come to the conclusion that the city had forgotten about the ridiculous traffic calmers. Now I see planters being put in! Seems like a really bad idea to me.

Traffic calming is an absurd notion. It's been used on Madison, Detroit, Clifton and Lake (in Cleveland) and now parts of Warren. All we residents get are traffic jams with cars idling far too many times to cross the city and increasingly polluted air. Progress!

Not that the city gives a damn about it's residents though, it obvious.

A speed limit sign, already there, and paid for by citizens dollars, all ready exists, we now need traffic calming obstructions? WHAT? who is driving that cannot read? Who is implementing these policies who cannot see what is already there? get rid of the incompetence officials. what a waste of my tax dollars.

Who came up with this ridiculous idea? It's a hazard not a calming device, I have to swerve right and left to get by, WHAT? who was the idiot who suggested this idea? and who was the asshole who approved it?

I believe that would be none other than the infamous Mayor/Public Safety Director Michael P. Summers.

Ever since he has entered the mayor's office, Mr. Summers seems to have tried on many different hats that he, in my opinion, is not qualified to wear. Here he goes again, trying on the "I'm a civil engineer" hat without a civil engineering degree form an accredited university or an engineering license/certification. I suppose he decided to take off the "I'm a zoologist/animal DNA expert and so is my secretary" hat for now.

Woodward is just another example of what happens when someone practices civil engineering without a license, in my opinion. Yes, the City Charter and related ordinances give Mr. Summers virtual control of everything related to traffic in the city, under the guise of "Public Safety Director". This can be looked up easily.

Any "studies" that are conducted regarding traffic/roads in Lakewood are almost always conducted by NOACA, where Mr. Summers sits on the Board of Directors, along with Armond Budish. Naturally, it would seem that any study NOACA conducts would produce results in favor of what Mr. Summers wants. Naturally, are NOACA employees going to go against their boss?

In regards to Woodward Ave., it seems to prove as an obstacle course for a normal, sober driver, with constant swerving and weaving. Then again, perhaps City Hall wants to create a simulator of what happens when most them drive around, minus the beer goggles! :D

I just drove down Woodward Ave. someone planted corn within the "traffic calming devices", Hooterville, If they wanted to calm the traffic, why not install speed bumpers or a traffic cop somewhere on the street? I felt like I was drunk, weaving back and forth. Two cars cannot pass at the same time, sober even.

That's the point. If a motorist has to stop to allow opposing traffic to pass, he or she can't use the street as a drag strip, and it'll, at least in theory, keep speeds down on the road.

I never heard of any complaint about anyone using any of Lakewood's streets for "drag racing".
