We are still awaiting the full contract, with signatures from all members of the Lakewood BOE and other respective parties.

Without signatures, this MOU is not official could be modified an infinite number of times.

It appears to be the good ol' boys network.

I stand by my assertion that this stinks and is worthy of investigation.

What about that FAQ?

The FAQ will be just a bunch of BS. It appears that Summers best friends on the School Board have taken communication lessons from the city.

I think that it is now safe to assume that the Lakewood City Schools have, more than likely, been involved in this whole hospital scam from day one.

I believe that if they had nothing to hide, they would have posted all documentation regarding this "clinic" deal on the Deck here, as requested, immediately, and not just a draft copy of a contract with no school official's signatures on them. How insulting to think the district thinks we are fools.

A word of advice for the Lakewood City School District: This might be a good time to lawyer up!

I am sure Mr. Summers will be using his speed dial option on his nine hundred thousand dollar phone system to call the Deck Squad to cover up this post immediately. If I were you Mr. Summers, I would spend less time trying to cover up incriminating posts on the Deck, and more time finding yourself a really good attorney, I believe you will be needing one soon!

Any other entity would have to pay for this valuable data. But in Lakewood, we give it to the Clinic for free.

I hope parents think before turning this info over to the Clinic.

Is completing and submitting this document mandatory? What is the consequence if a family chooses to not complete/submit? Expulsion?
According to the second page shown, at the top it says IN ALL CAPS: "HIGHLIGHTED AREAS MUST BE COMPLETED FOR SCHEDULING AND REGISTRATION"

Sounds like parents pretty much don't have a choice. The powers that be love to limit our choices, don't they?

This is completely outrageous if you ask me. What used to be included in your schooling is now subject to 100s of $ in fees. Another one of Summers' and the Clinic's privatization schemes. NO MORE! Will people EVER put their foot down in this town???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Yes, scheduling and registration for the Cleveland Clinic's health services. Not for school. Parents can elect to use the services offered or not. We chose not to. We put these forms into the recycling bin. Just like last year. Took all of a minute, end of issue. Just one of a great many opportunities that we are offered during the year that we can choose to participate in or not. And if we do, there's paperwork. And costs. 8th grade trip to DC, sports, etc.

Providing building space dedicated to the Clinic is a separate issue and I'm not yet clear on what that's all about.

I encourage those of you that believe this Cleveland Clinic deal, made for us by our seemingly corrupt school board members, is not legit, to file a complaint with the Auditor for the State of Ohio. You can file online or by telephone. You may stay anonymous is you choose to.

Hopefully, Mr. Summers doesn't have some kind of connection there like he does with the County and the county court system!

Ms. Gordillo,

Wow!

I thought there were to be 3 readings? What did I miss?

Also, I spent a few minutes on the website looking for the FAQs and can't find them. Can you let us know the page?

Ms. Gordillo, thank you for posting the link to your press release and related FAQ.

As taxpayers and citizens, the concern still remains as to whether or not the District's relationship with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation was 1.) openly and competitively bid, and 2.) is the District subsidizing the business activities of CCF with the expenditure of public funds to their direct benefit and to the detriment of the District's taxpayers. A significant subsidy appears to be transferred to CCF under the agreement on a basis that does not recognize the economic and financial value of the direct subsidy.

Neither the press release, nor the FAQ address these concerns.

Given the improper, concealed and questionable proposal process used by LHA and CCF to exclude other operators of Lakewood Hospital (resulting in its direct and prompt demise); you can understand our concern that the relationship between the District and the Clinic is one-sided to any one that skims the agreement.

I'm sure that other healthcare providers would have enjoyed the opportunity to have access to the District's facilities and associated patient revenues all for a nominal $1.00 per year.

I do, however, appreciate your commitment to public service.

One more question:

How long has the District been providing similar subsidies to its on-site healthcare vendors? Can the total amount of the subsidies be quantified? When was the last time that bids were solicited?

What happens to LHS’ current health clinic?

The school health clinic, staffed by either the District’s School Nurse or a Health Aide, will continue to be the first stop for students who have health care needs during the school day.
If my understanding is correct, the school district (the taxpayers) will be footing the bill for Cleveland Clinic's clinic, including utility, technology, and "backup generator costs", while still maintaining an on-site school clinic with a nurse and/or health aide. Obviously, this does not appear to save any money.
What happens if a student has CareSource for insurance?

The Cleveland Clinic has recently negotiated an agreement with CareSource to extend services. Details of that agreement should be forthcoming.
This negotiated agreement will likely not last very long. Bank on it.

While maybe well-intended, this FAQ does not answer any of my questions. For example, myself and probably many others are awaiting answers to the following questions:

1. What is the total estimated cost to Lakewood City Schools (the taxpayers) for the construction and operation of this clinic? When will itemized statements be available breaking down the total or estimated cost of the following:

A. Construction of the separate, 1,300 square foot clinic for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
B. Implementation of a HIPPA secure computer/internet system for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
C. Purchase of a backup generator to be used by the Cleveland Clinic Foundation at this clinic.
D. Annual utility costs to operate this clinic (electric, water, heat, internet service, telephone service, etc.)

2. Were any bond issue funds used to construct this separate, 1,300 square-foot clinic at Lakewood High School? If so, could someone please cite where in the bond issue language this clinic was mentioned?

3. Was any outside funding (federal, state, county, etc.) used in the construction of this clinic? If so, could someone please post letters of approval from those agencies that issued the funds?

4. Where can a copy of the full, signed contract between the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and the Lakewood City Schools regarding this clinic be found?

5. Will there be a separate sign in front of LHS advertising the clinic? If so, who will pay for the sign and the costs of erecting it? The same question applies regarding the special parking spaces for the clinic outside LHS.

6. Can it be safely assumed now that no open bidding took place whatsoever? If this is not the case, is there a list of all bidders and bids available?

7. The bottom line is: where is all of this money coming from?
