Fire Department Shopping

Post by jackie f taylor »

First off, I love the Lakewood fire department, the police, all of our protective services, they have served me very well thru the years, and I'm not complaining, just mentioning, because it came to my attention one day, numerous times I have seen the Lakewood Fire Department shopping at Lakewood's Giant Eagle. They drive the big expensive EMS truck, (expensive for my use anyway) does it cost's us taxpayers the same amount of money every time they drive it to Giant Eagle, does it cost us the same as it cost me when I need the service? Or is it because it's official business? I'm just asking, in my opinion, they can have anything they want, I'm surprised they don't have a personal shopper, I'm just wondering. Doesn't the department have a smaller less expensive, SUV that could carry groceries?

Jackie---- good observation but firemen and women and EMS have always eaten their meals at their station. Somebody's got to go and get the vittles. Sometimes an appropriate size vehicle isn't immediately available. And, they're shopping locally. Stan

I had the same size vehicle pick me up, when I was in need, take me from Lakewood Hospital to Fairview General Hospital, to the Emergency Room, , it cost $1700.00, Does it cost us taxpayers that same amount when they go shopping at Giant Eagle?? I'm just asking.

It also may be that they have the vehicle in case of an urgent call so they don't waste time traveling back to the station.

Fire fighters are known to be excellent cooks.
Each year in its Televised Auction, PBS 25 gets big dollars for the chance to dine at a local firehouse.

From Station 1 they have a pick up truck to shop with. Stations 2 & 3 use the ambulances. They try to coordinate shopping around runs and other duties. On occasion you may see a fire truck there to shop this is usually done when returning from another assignment.
