Post by Jim O'Bryan »

This evening around 10pm, Lakewood Police received a phone call that someone had turned on all the gas in the house, in an effort to ?? Blow it up??? Police and Fire arrived and closed of Parkwood between Franklin and Detroit and called CEI, and the Gas Company. As more police arrived they started going door by door telling residents of the situation and telling them they should leave their homes.

This was eventually widen to Bunts between Detroit and Franklin, when CEI and the Gas Company arrived. Access was made into the house, where police were unsure if anyone was in our not, the house was filled with gas, so Lakewood Fire Department came and aired out the house, turned off all the gas, and then turned everything back on.

Good work Lakewood Police and Fire Department.

Nothing to see here move along.

We live on Parkwood. Last night, about 10:15, police came banging on our door and told us we needed to evacuation as soon as possible. We grabbed our dogs and cats and drove to Westlake to stay with some friends. I have never been so scared in my life.

I also want to thank our friends (former neighbors on Parkwood) for providing safe refuge for us and our pets. Love you guys.

Amy--- Your post emphatically expresses your frustration with the emergency situation you and your neighbors experienced. If only those who feel "aggrieved" in their personal lives and don't recognize that their infantile reactions actually can have very serious consequences to many people (and pets).

Re: Parkwood Ave Natural Gas Incident

On Saturday May 20, 2017 at 9:42pm the Lakewood Police Department received a call reporting the caller’s husband had informed her he was planning to harm himself by turning on the gas in the home and blowing up their house. This was the result of an on-going domestic issue the couple were having. The caller and her children were not at the home.

Officers and Lakewood Fire units responded to the scene. The husband was not at the home. Officers did detect the smell of natural gas. The gas and electric companies were called to respond. As a precaution several homes on Parkwood Ave and Bunts Rd, between Detroit and Franklin, were evacuated and the streets closed.

Once the utilities were turned off entry was made into the home. No one was found in the home. The gas utilities which were left on were turned off. The home was ventilated and residents advised they could return to their homes.

The husband turned himself into the Lakewood Police Department. He was arrested on the initial charges of Attempted Aggravated Arson and Inducing Panic. The case will be reviewed by the Prosecutors on Monday. Once the husband is officially charged his name will be released.
