Only in Lakewood.
Since the thread continues listing in this direction, I'll note that very sadly, this is far far from an only-in-Lakewood issue.

Vox has an informative essay up about the larger issue of "tribal epistemology," although it's nearly 40,000 words. But the summary version is that our biological tendency to prefer that our beliefs be reinforced, rather than challenged, is being intensified by a variety of cultural factors.

The result is not simply bias, or cherry-picking facts, but outright rejecting belief in any objective authority whatsoever. Any kind of common resource inevitably loses credibility; unless it's actively and reliably promoting the "team" agenda, it's regarded as "the enemy." Thus we see disengagement from common forums in favor of dedicated partisan replacements, whether TV networks, online encyclopedias, or Facebook groups.

Mostly, this doesn't seem to preclude clinging to the idea of a broader community—but that idea is detached from reality and remapped to "the team." The team is indistinguishable from e.g. "the real America," and people who don't support the team become resented as interlopers. Once you redefine the community as synonymous with your team, meanwhile, anyone who opposes your team obviously "hates" the community.

Or, if all this is still tl;dr, the really short answer to "how can someone not understand" questions is probably this quote from a related article:
“I just choose to not listen.”

If Colin is really helping council skirt sunshine laws as this thread seems to be claiming, I wonder how he seems to manage to work such short days.

Interesting to note that Colin/Rick, who work so hard to impede "sunshine"/free speech, have worked/now work as professional journalists, or at least professional in the sense that they got/get a paycheck for those jobs.

I believe at one time, some council members claimed that there were public records that, even they themselves, had not seen.
Really?

It appears now that perhaps these council persons, who claimed that they had to review all the information before making their decision about the hospital deal were liars. Apparently, Mr. Essi's lawsuit is about to uncover some very damning information that Summers and Council do not want us to see.

Perhaps our city leader himself, Mike Summers, should post here and tell us why it appears that the deal to get rid of the hospital was concocted and finalized before Cleveland Clinic was even notified!

Citizens of Lakewood, it is time to wake up. We have been scammed and lied to by our city leaders. What is worse,it is with our own tax dollars.

I don't expect our Mayor to explain this here on the Deck. He will probably send one of his "Deck Watchers" on to derail this thread. I believe this is what guilty people do!

Brian, did you receive the attachments mentioned in the emails as well?

Also, does anyone know how much money Eileen Korey https://www.eileenkorey.com/ received from the city? I can't find anything on the Lakewood Checkbook.

"City Council is a 7-member communications army. We've worked hard here to provide the tools to be able to answer these complicated questions. Go get 'em."

Unbelievable. I would love to have a councilperson chime in to explain that remark. Your job is to represent your constituents, not be part of some PR offensive.

If anyone feels that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) needs to be called in, it is best to write a letter and attach all relevant documentation, and send it all to:

Kate,

A little off topic, but , apparently the online checkbook is off limits too.

Remember when I brought up the question about why the city was paying Maryanne Crampton for consulting, and it was listed under miscellaneous?
The Mayor sent out the Deck Watchers and even a city employee's wife to come on the Deck and try to discredit me.

I believe these moves are done by very sick people who must have something to hide.

Brian, thank you so much for having the courage to pursue these records. I believe the truth it starting to come out and a lot of people are getting really scared.

I heard a couple other persons have left city hall. Can anyone confirm this?

Tom Bullock is by far the most dishonest, disingenuous politician I have met in my 26 years of local activism.
There is no depth to which he won't stoop to advance his career.
I thank God that after ten years he is still nothing more than a part-time council member from a medium sized town.
He's a legend in his own mind.

Like Fitz, who really thought he'd be in the White House.

Ms. McCarthy,

No. Mr. Butler has withheld many attachments. As a cautionary note, the email chain I posted on this thread was produced by Mr. Butler as a "public record", but I have no assurances that it is authentic, has not been altered or if it is even complete.

Again, The "7-member communications army" comment by McEwen suggests that by December 10, 2015, McEwen believed that all 7 Council-members, including McEwen's "good friend" Sam O'Leary had "voted" for ordinance 49-15. So McEwen's email serves as further evidence that his "good friend" O'Leary's testimony on December 21st in Skindell v. Madigan was intentionally and knowingly false.

Brian,

Thank you for this. I assume this testimony by Mr. O'Leary was given under oath? If so, would that mean after he raised his right hand and swore to God to tell the truth? If this is the case, this sounds like perjury.

If this is the case, and Mr. O'Leary did indeed give false testimony, I'm sure prosecution will begin immediately. :D
