I am now watching the Trump/Republican celebration of the Denial of Health Care. I can see an exact overlay of the video onto the more simple but same situation here in Lakewood.

I think most people know my views about said situation here in Lakewood, and what responses to pursue at present.

I would like to put in a few words about the "American Health Care Act" and appropriate local responses to it. (None of which include celebrating.)

I'm appalled at basically everything related to this legislation. It would be a disaster for me, and an even bigger disaster for millions. I can elaborate if desired. For now, though:

I hope very much that everyone displeased with health care decisions made here in Lakewood will also voice disapproval of the AHCA. (In fact I hope everyone else will voice their disapproval of it. I'm not policing who is or isn't allowed to say that the AHCA is awful!) Our Senator Rob Portman repeated just this afternoon that he's a "no" on the AHCA, but will face constant pressure to change his vote in response to a fake "fix." If you don't want that, please remind him regularly. I called this afternoon with a polite "thanks," and will be in contact often. (If you feel like visiting his office some time, hit me up; we'll carpool.)

Our mayor Mike Summers would fit in quite well with that crowd.

Former businessman, clueless as to the needs of the people he is supposed to serve.

That's Trump in a nutshell too.

Former businessman,

Both President Trump and Mayor Summers are still "businessmen" ... they've just changed the business they are in.

Chief Justice Roberts got it right--the ACA was a "tax"---a tax increase for many and benefits for many.

The partial "repeal" of the ACA (tax) by the AHCA is a "tax" decrease for some and a cutting of benefits for many.

In my opinion, neither the ACA nor the AHCA have much to do with "healthcare" and neither has improved (or will improve) "health"

Summers "sold" the Hospital for pennies and called it "Good News", "Healthcare is changing" "Population based healthcare" and "the Healthiest City in America"--all bunk. It was all based upon the fallacy that the aspirational goals of improved health under the ACA were tangible and attainable. They are not.

It was a good thing that Medicaid was expanded under the ACA---now 78 million or about 25% of Americans are covered.

This whole farce that the ACA and AHCA are about "healthcare" reminds me of Mr. Liston's post discussing how both political parties are just playing us.

Some benefitted under the ACA, but now some will benefit under the AHCA and the ACA beneficiaries will lose ground (some of the most underserved among us). In both instances many "pay" or have "paid"--either by more "taxes", or the loss of benefits. We are being played--just like Summers, Bullock, Marx and Nowlin et al played us.
