From the Lakewood City School District website:

AUCTION FOR BOARD OF ED PROPERTY DRAWS NO BIDDERS
The public auction held on April 25 for the purpose of bidding on the Board of Education property at 1470 Warren Road drew no bidders. The minimum bid required was $850,000. By Ohio statute, the Board of Education is now free to enter into negotiations for a private sale.

I don't think I'm well enough informed to draw any firm conclusions from this.

Tentatively, though, I'm not immediately certain that all of the following can be true simultaneously.
  • Lakewood is doing great, because interest in this city is surging
  • The minimum bid for the school board building was proportionate to reasonable market expectations
  • A centrally located property drew zero bids

a market conundrum? an oxymoron? a kerfuffle? Or maybe just no date for the Prom

I guess that "hot" real estate market isn't quite as hot as they claim.

Awhile ago we discussed the post office property, the school board building and some houses on St. Charles being made a part of a larger package with the hospital land - they are all approximately contiguous except for the streets that separate them. At that point the discussion would be about a significant enough stretch of land to be developed together. If they could do something great rather than something meh (mixed use only on the hospital property), I might be able to get behind it, even if it meant sacrificing the board of ed building, although perhaps it could saved and renovated to fit the project. Could something like this be on the table?
