LO_13_08_Online and On The Streets

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

“And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.” - Nelson Mandela

Twice a month, Lakewood residents, many who have never even met, come together in an ongoing act of love, respect, and sharing. Sharing their stories and photos with your stories and photos. This time, Issue 13 Volume 8 will once again allow us to look inside two of our most valuable institutions and community investments, The Schools and The Library. Hearkening back to an era where Lakewood and Lakewood residents stood for education, and especially the education of our children.

Which brings us to our largest investment, each year, every month, and every day: City Hall. They don't like to share their information. They hide it. They don’t like to educate our residents and their children. They prefer to dumb them down, fool them, keep them in the dark.

We, as residents of a city that was dedicated to eduction and knowledge, should think long and hard about what City Hall is teaching our children and how they educate us. Through $2.5 million dollars in crisis management and spin? Yes. Instead of simply releasing public documents that would allow all to see, to understand, and to draw their own conclusions.

NEVER Teaching us "Win at all costs"--never mind the rules and courts of law? Get into office and serve yourself and friends first, forget all duties of elected office?

At the Observer we trust our own community. Everyone can participate equally, share concerns, bring new ideas to the table and allow the community to understand, find fault, add new ideas, vet the ideas and process and teach an entire new generation about life in a community.

That is what the Observer Media Project is about-- moving the community forward through community thinking, discussion and sharing. It comes from love and respect.

With that, here is LO_13_08 for your enjoyment.

Big thanks to all the editors, writers, photographers, and sponsors that made it possible.

Lots of great news from our schools in this issue!

Unfortunately I submitted my Sports Update too late to be included. (I blame the Easter Bunny)
However, you can read it at the link below.
It has news about track and field, baseball, softball, and football.

This is a really nice issue. I enjoyed the articles by the young model-makers, particularly.

Just maybe, the kids are alright.

Way too easy ...

Thanks to all that made another issue of the LO possible.

Everyone should especially read the article by Ms. Kaplan on page 14. It is very informative and thought-provoking. It is a must-read.
