Public records recently released reveal that Law Director Butler has kept certain of his dealings with the Clinic and LHA secret from City Council and the public.

In a recent Court filing, Mr. Butler wrote "tens (and possibly hundreds) of thousands" of records have not been produced. Many of these public records concern Mr. Butler's dealings and interactions with the Clinic, LHA, Huron Consulting and others. Has she made City Council aware of these records and his dealings?

How much more taxpayer money will Lakewood City Council allow the Law Department to spend to defend the Clinic and keep Summers' and Butler's dealings with the Clinic, Huron Consulting and LHA secret from City Council and the citizens of Lakewood?

Mr. Kindt recently suggested write Council to have them ask for an independent investigation of the Law Department.

Does anyone on Council have the courage to speak up and call for an investigation or reign in an out of control Law Department spending public money to defend itself?
Dan O'Malley, where do you stand on Lakewood's Law Director withholding public records?
Mr. O'Malley, Silence is complicity. I still hope for a response from my city councilperson but until then let's move on...

Cindy Marx, where do you stand on Lakewood's Law Director withholding public records?

Good one Bridget!

I believe that our Council members consented a long time ago to the Summers and Extended Company plan. All of them have had plenty of time to go to the authorities and chose not to. Is it because they only know a one word answer to Summers, the word "aye"? Is there something in it for them? More than likely, their lawyers have told them to say nothing. Of course, let's not forget what the tax payers of Lakewood are always told at council meetings by our incompetent leaders, "we don't take questions at council meetings". More than likely because they have not had the opportunity to be coached by Butler for the Mayor.

As far as Mr. Butler is concerned, I am beginning to believe that his playing dumb is just an act or he is truly a bad lawyer. I believe when all is said and done, Mr. Butler could be facing disbarment. In my opinion, he should be disbarred.

If City Council members truly believed Mr Butker withholding public records was justified, then why aren't they publicly defending his actions?

They won't defend nor condemn.

They are truly the epitome of cowards.

They have shown themselves time and again of being incapable of standing up for ANYTHING!

Like I said before, they are all members of the Summers and Extended Company Group. The group that appears to be sucking the city dry! I believe that council has been rewarded well for their participation. They had to have known that some of their actions were questionable, if not, illegal. I wonder how many of them will stick around and go down with the ship? I believe that Summers, Butler, Madigan, Bullock and Juris are probably more invested in this mess than the rest of them are. Just because some of them are no loner in office, they will still have to face the consequences for their actions.

Butler is just Butler. Another robot that does whatever the Mayor wants him to do. Even if it means he may face disbarment. Do we all really think that Butler hoarding public records was all his idea? I believe Mr. Butler should seek legal counsel himself, as I am afraid that sooner or later, he may be facing some very difficult questions.

Some men here on the Deck are offended that I call Summers Lord Lakewood. He sure does reign over this city!

In Lakewood's case, we should be requesting the records of both public emails on city computers and private emails concerning the Lakewood Hospital issue, including plans for the hospital site, that are on Mike Summers, Law Director Butler, Dru Siley, Bryce Sylvestor, Jenn Pae, LHA members and ALL the City Council members PERSONAL EMAIL accounts.

In early May of 2015, I was working with Bryce Sylvestor's father (same office). In MAY 2015, Bryce Sylvestor's father chastised me for my involvement with Save Lakewood Hospital. " Why are you wasting your time? It's a done deal. " is what this gentleman told me. It is then that I found out his son worked for Lakewood.

How did Bryce Sylvestor' s father know it was a "DONE DEAL" in May 2015 and the general public was not aware. Why was City Council making statement after statement about all the due diligence they were doing when the deal was already done and a man who lives in Fairview Park knew that before I and the citizens of Lakewood had a clue. Thank God for the lawsuit and effective discover brought out the DECANTING OF LAKEWOOD HOSPITAL PLAN.

Out City Council members ? Some are self serving and others have absolutely NO integrity. Some are just cowards. I have watched a few descend into that arena before my eyes. Sad but I do not empathize with their plight because their fear has enabled our hospital to be closed and our economy to be jeopardized. Even our Bond Rating is at risk.

The FEDS should be investigating Lakewood City and it's Law Director etc...

Pam,

Thank you. In addition to personal e-mails, what about text messages? If they relate to public business, those are public too. In the likely event any of these texts have been deleted, their cellular phone carriers can be subpoenaed to produce the text messages, as I'm sure that they are on record with them.

If Sylvester's father knew it was a done deal in May 2015, what did Bryce know and when did he know it? To what extent is his involvement in not only the hospital debacle, but in the apparent "city takeover" by Summers & Co.? Does his LLC company, AdaptGov LLC, play any part? As others have said, the whole Adaptgov LLC thing is very bizarre and produces numerous questions about ethics and conflicts of interest.

As far as our council people, I would agree with you. Perhaps in addition to reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag at council meetings, City Council could write up a Pledge of Allegiance to Mike Summers that they could recite on their own, as they seem quite concerned with serving him and his interests than anyone else.

It could go something like:

"I pledge allegiance to Mike Summers, and his small circle of friends,
and to the deceit on which it stands,
one city, under Summers,
divided, with tyranny and justice for none."

This could be council's creed.

I don't think any of us should hold our breath waiting for an answer from the Mayor or Council. I believe they have all lawyered up and were told not to speak.

If all of them would have followed the sale of public property laws, along with the laws that deal with the other questionable happenings in Lakewood, they would not be in this mess.

I bet all of us tax payers are paying their legal fees. Should we request records? I think that if they are using our tax money, they should give it back!

Ryan Nowlin, where do you stand on Lakewood's Law Director withholding public records?

Mr. Buckley,

Please note the tone, content and context of a May 22, 2015 letter to Metro authored by then Vice-President of Council, Ryan Nowlin, as it relates to transparency.
nowlin letter to metro.pdf
(266.36 KiB) Downloaded 146 times
We all know that in 2015 Mr. Nowlin and his colleagues were participating in executive sessions that involved backroom dealings with CCF officials--Indeed, Sam O'Leary testified that he met privately with CCF representatives concerning terms of the Master Agreement-- was he lobbied by CCF in the broom closet or at a baseball game in the loge?

So, despite voting to go into executive session after executive session, Mr. Nowlin writes a rather cold letter asking Metro to come to City Council's Cirque Du Soleil and have Dr. Boutros do somersaults for show.

Dr. Boutros and his team were likely aware of the Ohio Ethics Opinions that resulted in Mr. Nowlin's law partners resigning from LHA and LHF earlier in May, 2015.

Mr. Nowlin & Co. hid behind the Thompson Hine lawyers and Butler, so why didn't he send his lawyers out to feel out Metro?

Now, nearly two years later, we have no evidence that anyone on City Council, much less Butler and/or Thompson Hine lawyers ever picked up the phone, and gave Dr. Boutros and his team a jingle--or sat and broke bread with them to discuss matters in a businesslike manner.

After being threatened by CCF, Dr. Boutros saw through the charade that Mr. Nowlin was leading---as a County employee Boutros likely knew Madigan was in a conflict of interest as a County employee, (and with her boss, Armand Budish)

So Madigan could not play the role in that act of the Cirque Du Soleil--Nowlin stepped on to the stage.

So where does Candidate Nowlin stand on an investigation of the law department for withholding records?

Where do you stand on government transparency?
Where do you stand on Lakewood's Law Director withholding public documents?

Mr. Nowlin- You are a lawyer. You are seeking re-election to city council. Those two questions should not stump you.
