There was a letter matching this description, dated October 16, 2016. It was not signed by Councilman O'Malley.

Not getting into what anyone should make of this information, just contributing it toward this humble Abstract and Brief Chronicle of Our Times.

I'm lacking complete recall of the events at the time. I recall that there was some kind of letter from council supporting the deal, and Dan O'Malley signed it. Also, wasn't there another council vote after the referendum? Perhaps someone else can fill in the details.

Is Bridget's post in reference to the proposals in question, or are they something else?

Dan

If I remember correctly Councilman O'Malley's name, as so often happened is this debacle was added before he was asked and sent out.

>>>Then why hasn't he spoken up about it - or did I miss it.

Yes Bridget's post is about current proposals.

>>>Thanks.

I recall that on one of the "Vote for Issue 64" postcards, it was stated that "all members of Lakewood City Council" endorsed Issue 64. I believe this has been before, mulled over and Mr. O'Malley was given a chance to clarify his position, but I don't recall him ever doing so. However, he did come to some Save Lakewood Hospital meetings prior to his election. Then again, this would not be the first case of this happening.

I'm not going to allow thread drift here. I'm focusing on the point of my original post.

We (the U.S.) stood with the Soviets during two World Wars, because we both knew it was in our best interests at the time. It opened lines of communication that otherwise may not have been there. Years later, came Reagan and his willingness to keep his rival close. That brought freedom to much of Eastern Europe & strengthened the U.S. pull politically, and economically. Why can't we all, in our community, stand together? I'm not telling anyone to "move on, and forget about it." I'm telling you to honor thy neighbor, and focus on how to show outsiders why they want to live here and do business here. That's how we keep our city prosperous, and our property values high.

Anyone who wants to sit here & talk about how terrible it is, take it to another thread, or another outlet. It's not THAT bad. After all, we could be East Cleveland. Or is that what is wanted? That will give everyone plenty to bitch about.

One final point, then I'm probably going to stop responding. IF anything was done illegally, then those that did illegal things will pay the price. In today's day and age, it's nearly impossible to get away with anything. And to play devil's advocate here...what if some of this is already under investigation, and that's slowing any process on info? That's a whole new thread though...

This Trump/Summers Era is one of unprecedented corruption at every level of government.
When I first got involved 26 years ago, I never would have imagined a world where Lakewoodites openly work to destroy the hospital, or where a blatantly racist conman could be elected president.
But here we are.

We have two choices: Submit or resist.
For the good of our society, I hope enough folks stand and resist.

The corporatists are banking on people to lose their sense of outrage.....perhaps they will get their way.
For the future of our society, I hope they do not.

I'm more of the mind of the "those who fail to understand history are doomed to repeat it."

We need to learn from the experience but until we actually know exactly how it went down, we don't know enough to keep it from happening again and again.

Bridget, I love it!

It is sad that these monkeys are smarter, and more transparent than our current Mayor and Council. More honest too! :D
