Re-Imagining Lakewood Park as Mixed-Use Development/Marina
Lakewood Park is 31 acres of of prime development land. If 5.7 acres in congested downtown got them excited....
Let's Think and Dream Bigger!
How about upscale Lakefront bars, restaurants, Juris hotel, condos, offices, marina, etc. --perhaps even a casino!
Let the developers have the majority of the 31 acre Lakewood park, with the condition that eco bike trails, skate park, basketball courts, new pool, public marina, fishing pier, rowing and sailing center.
Let's Dream Bigger!
Just imagine the "SHOPPING" one could do there!
Keeping the Solstice Stairs would be negotiable.
Re-Imagine the "Michael P. Summers Natatorium" and "Jay Foran Soccer Fields" and "Kevin Butler Justice Center" at the former hospital site sprawling though the post office property on Warren Road all the way to Grant Elementary School. Lot's of green space and tulip lined bike and jogging paths. All paid for by the money selling off Lakewood Park and future tax revenues from it. Why Not?
Re-Imagine the tax dollars we could collect on just the construction workers' pay alone!
Let's really Build Lakewood into a vibrant powerhouse of economic development.
Slogan: "Lakewood--Ohio's Premier Waterfront Destination!"
Let's leverage our name and location.
Who could argue against it?
Here is just one rendering of how great it would be:

Brian-- nice suggestions but I would suggest something more practical like relocating the Eastlake power generating plant. Stan

Brilliant Idea Brian! Maybe it is too big for the local developers.

Here's a good idea that was ignored:

Around these parts, unless someone's buddies can make something off of a project, it doesn't get done.

I was a Staff Aid on the Jetport Feasibility Study in 1973 and was employed by the primary consultants, Howard, Needles., Tammen and Bergendoff. It was a good idea and concept but just didn't "take off".

For access, they can extend the Shoreway down Clifton to Belle, and they can widen Warren from I-90. Then underground Warren from the at least the post office to north of the tracks, and cutover to Belle at Clifton. Think of all that obsolete housing stock that they could wipe. It would look like Rocky River Drive approaching Brookpark. Making Lakewood Great!cmager wrote:Well hell, why not build the jetport? Cleveland Summers International Airport.

How about a new nuclear power plant?Stan Austin wrote:Brian-- nice suggestions but I would suggest something more practical like relocating the Eastlake power generating plant. Stan
Tuesday will be the first reading of Ordinance 17-17:
ORDINANCE NO. 17-17 – AN ORDINANCE to expand Chapter 1159, Planned Development, of the Zoning Code to permit planned developments in any zoning district and allowed any use so long as that use is sensitive to the former permitted use and adjacent. (Pg. 186 )
http://www.onelakewood.com/wp-content/u ... -21-17.pdf
After 3 readings, City Hall can do pretty much anything at Lakewood Park it wants as long as it is "sensitive."

Holy Shit!
Ordinance 17-17 cannot happen. To know what they write is to know what it means.
Fn mobilize!

They can do anything they want. If the rules are in their way, they just change the rules.cmager wrote:Holy Shit!

Steal the land, build whatever crap you want, and keep the citizens out of the picture.ORDINANCE NO. 17-17 – AN ORDINANCE to expand Chapter 1159, Planned Development, of the Zoning Code to permit planned developments in any zoning district and allowed any use so long as that use is sensitive to the former permitted use and adjacent. Brian
Not to drop the mic on you but, Savannah Farris dreamed big. However council spent more money on studying turning empty run down offices into Boutique Hotels.
Would have created over $50 million in taxable property!

Re: Re-Imagining Lakewood Park as Mixed-Use Development/Marina
Maybe it's time for City Hall to revive Fitzy's Grand Vision of a County Jail in Lakewood.
Trump's "Law and Order" Administration offers lots of growth opportunities for incarceration facilities.
Lakewood Park has plenty of room! And I'm sure the Team Summers crowd won't mind living next door to a lockup.
