Why else would they reject an offer (Metro) that would have kept a hospital and a much wider array of medical services in Lakewood for the long-term future than the CCF plan.
It's unimaginable, and also un-re-imaginable.
It must have been to help "those people."
Reimagine all "those people" coming across 117th Street coming to the new city center and living in peace with Plantation and Cotton right across the street.
This is the "Big Dreamer" "Thinking Big" and he's not the only one...
Or imagine/re-imagine a Lakewood resident/Metro patient, walking to the facility.
Has everyone here heard of the CleCare Metro/Med Mutual HMO-style offering? It's more reasonably priced than other insurances and the quality of Metro's health care is quite good.
Monday, June 06, 2016 - Medical Mutual of Ohio and The MetroHealth System Launch CLECare
Medical Mutual of Ohio and The MetroHealth System today announced a unique partnership that will change the way health care is delivered in Northeast Ohio. CLECare is a new insurance product designed to provide better care and a better patient experience at a lower cost – approximately 15 percent savings compared to typical insurance premiums.
CLECare offers employers and their covered employees and dependents a tailored network of providers, each committed to coordinating care for patients at all stages of their health needs. MetroHealth will provide most of the care - including tests, doctor visits and hospital stays - at its rapidly expanding network of health centers, emergency departments and inpatient facilities. Other care including selected complex procedures, behavioral health services, home and hospice care will be offered by other organizations around Northeast Ohio.
This network makes it easier for patients to access care at a better value. The network will improve the patient experience by sharing clinical information and reducing unnecessary treatments. It will also allow members to access the most appropriate care within the network.
“This rare and intense collaboration improves patients’ access to the best care for their needs while reducing costs,” said Akram Boutros, MD, president and CEO of MetroHealth. “The partnership really came together because all of us are committed to improving patient care.”
MMO acquired the insurance business from HealthSpan effective March 1, 2016, and MetroHealth assumed care for HealthSpan’s 40,000 plus patients in Cuyahoga County on April 1 of this year. As the organizations came together to address the needs of the former HealthSpan community, they saw an opportunity to create a partnership that will deliver more affordable health care to more people in Cuyahoga County.
“We expect significant interest from former HealthSpan insurance purchasers and the growing number of employers and individuals in Cuyahoga County who seek better value for their health care dollars,” said Rick Chiricosta, chairman, president and CEO of Medical Mutual of Ohio.
CLECare is available now through Medical Mutual. For more information, visit MedMutual.com.

Yes, imagine (or re-imagine). The only negative, you have to go outside of Lakewood to use their services. The Kaiser (HealthSpan) office which used to be in Lakewood, and is now operated by Metro, is in one of Westgate office buildings in Rocky River. And they have two facilities on 150th, one south of Lorain, another south of 71. Not far, but imagine.
If this were FB I'd give your post a "like."
“Never let a good crisis go to waste." - Winston Churchill (Quote later appropriated by Rahm Emanuel)
Metro had pediatricians in the INA building. We would walk there. I just received notice that the Metrohealth INA location is now closing and we will have to travel to Westpark or Westlake to see our pediatrician.
Only last year my kids biked up to the building to grab copies of their physicals and then biked to practice. In what other city could a kid do that? Walkable & bikable? Not so much anymore.
...it sounds like a CCF monopoly is inevitable. Still can't fathom how our city leadership could accept this?
Let's not kid ourselves. It has been in the plan to build the Michael P. Summers Recreation Center. It has to be named after him! (They could build monuments to his self-centeredness .)
There will be soccer fields.
It will consist of a pool, sauna, and masseuse, topped off with World of Bars, vape lounges, smoke shops, burner cell phone stores and bit coin stores.
Price of membership will only be affordable to those residents making more than $200,000 a year. But, there will be jobs, all paying eight bucks an hour.
What this really means is that it will be the Mayor's private Country Club.
