The passing of Jack Palmer

Post by John Palmer »

I just wanted to briefly mention that on New Year's eve, my father, Jack Palmer passed away at the age of 82. Sadly, it was very sudden. Some of you will remember him from the Lakewood Dog Park. Some of you may have known him as the father of my brother Glenn from Lakewood Hardware. Some may even have known him from my parent's days of collectibles and resale, or from their perch from the porch of their old home on West Clifton Blvd. Some of your parents and grandparents might even have know him from his years in real estate with some recognizable Lakewood agencies, or even from the decades his family operated multiple Palmer's Meats locations (Morrison and Madison, Marlowe and Detroit, and what is currently the Borderline Cafe), starting in the early 1900's.

He told us for years he wanted no fanfare when his time came, so we will be respecting that wish. He will be buried with my mother at Lakewood Park Cemetery. Arrangements will be forthcoming.

For his friends from the dog park, none of his family can take his 2 smaller dogs, so if you know of anyone who would consider taking one or both, please contact us as soon as possible. Taking care of his dogs was always his priority, and we want to do everything we can for them.

Thank you for your thoughts.

John

I am so sorry for your loss and the loss of the Palmer family.

I loved your Dad more than I could ever convey.

All of the nasty letters he sent the "liberal press and their flaming liberal publisher", all of the never ending ribbing when I had the pleasure to stop over.

But just under his rough tough exterior was a man of pure class and love, and once he let it show I was a fan forever.

We have lost another good one, and I miss him already.

peace/love

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Jack. My thoughts are with you and your family.
For the dogs, please email me at melissa@alldogsheaven.org and let me see what my rescue can do for you. (pictures would be awesome and quick blurb)

My condolences to the Palmer family. Jack was a neighbor. I always enjoyed chatting with him - he knew so much about Lakewood and it's history and he so loved the city.

Jack Palmer was a hard core Republican and Conservative, if for no other reason family values, and government accountability.

He would bust my chops every chance he got.

On June 20, 2004 he saw me out front and came wandering out in his "Sandy Berger" outfit.

God I loved that man.

From Wikipedia:
On July 19, 2004, it was revealed that the U.S. Department of Justice was investigating Berger for unauthorized removal of classified documents in October 2003 from a National Archives reading room prior to testifying before the 9/11 Commission. The documents were five classified copies of a single report commissioned from Richard Clarke covering internal assessments of the Clinton Administration's handling of the unsuccessful 2000 millennium attack plots.

Thank you. That seems like such a long time ago, which I guess it really was.

Thanks for this. It certainly captures a lot more than just his image.
