14 Points of fascism: The warning signs
http://www.oldamericancentury.org/14pts.htm
2.) Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights: Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
3.) Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause: The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.
6.) Controlled Mass Media: Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
9.) Corporate Power is Protected: The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
10.) Labor Power is Suppressed: Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.
11.) Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts: Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.
13.) Rampant Cronyism and Corruption: Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
14.) Fraudulent Elections: Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
For those that seem to forget. The only stance the Lakewood Observer, or I took on the entire hospital debacle is, "Tell the truth."
Now we are the enemy? We provide a forum, and a discussion with real names, and now City Hall believes we are the enemy? For 12 years we have given City Hall all the space they have asked for. Every time, no charge, ever. We are not fair? Open? Honest? We print what they send, even though they no longer allow us in City Hall.
Everyone that has ever contributed to the Lakewood Observer knows just how pitiful they are.

I guess we are better off being the enemy than a bunch of alleged crooks and alleged money launderers, spanning from city hall, to the county, to the courts!

Re: Definitions Continued...
They've always viewed you as the enemy, and by "you," I mean the idea of the Observer project - a place where people can talk freely and share information.
I realized many years ago the parochial and clannish nature of this city when a levy was on the ballot. Rather than be upfront and explain why the levy was needed and how it would be judiciously spent, and trust the voters to understand, the focus of their campaign was "keep it quiet" so only supporters would vote. I'm not kidding, it was an outright and unabashed plan to keep it under the radar and contact all the known supporters and spread the word instead of publicizing the levy. I was appalled, to say the least, and from that point on I realized the closemindedness of our supposed community "leaders."
The Observer is essential to keep people accountable.

Levy: To impose or collect a tax.
With all the corruption appearing to be going on within the City of Lakewood, does anyone believe that the "shortage" of funds for the construction of the new schools could be a hoax? After all, there appears to be a few members of Summer's Extended Company involved with the school system. Should we be checking our school district for possible corruption and money laundering too?

The Observer is not essential, it is merely another red herring they chose to fight.
People do not stop talking because the Observer is no longer. People talked and organized before, and will after.
Their dream of controlling the message is delusional. The acts to try to do so, sickening.

With all the alleged crimes being committed by the city, county, courts and school district, I would think those involved would be moving to another country by now!

From very early 2015...

Posted before they spent over a million "To try to get you the facts."
Though not a single media source asked for a penny. Well at least not the Observer.
OK a little test. Who gets the money? What is the plan? Why did it happen?
Did we get our money's worth for the $1 million?
Also from early 2015...
