I'm against what Lakewood will vote on tomorrow as Issue 64.
But I'm also against having another campaign on any Issue 64 in Lakewood… and for some solution to spare us this possibility.
The Board of Elections' process for assigning issue numbers, as I recall Councilman O'Malley explaining it a couple of months ago, seems simple, transparent and fair. But it obviously creates some possibility of a community voting on the same issue number repeatedly, and if that possibility is actually small, it obviously can 1) still happen and 2) be a little aggravating.
At this point, I'm entirely ready to "retire Issue 64's jersey number" in Lakewood, permanently. But if that would likely get too subjective, it seems like there could be some reasonably simple adjustment to BoE policy so that, at least, a particular issue number doesn't reappear in one community more often than say every four years. I would imagine that if issue number assignment is automated, then e.g. just a few lines of code would take care of this without making the process more complex or open to abuse.
This is a semi-serious proposal. I don't actually know who could amend the relevant policies, whether the BoE itself or some other body. But if anyone does I'll be happy to write a nice letter.
"Please, sir, may we have some other number…?"

Re: Against Issue 64 beyond tomorrow
I see four scenarios:
Lose by a lot - to me, we are done except for lawsuits, and various governmental agency complaints.
Lose by a little - meet again and weigh our options.
Win by a little - expect City Hall to fight it with everything they've got and we need to respond.
Win by a lot - expect major concessions; if not the battle continues.
