New Shenanigans at the Lakewood Democratic Club
The Lakewood Democratic Club website has been down since just before last month's membership purge.
As you may recall, Club President Karolyn Isenhart removed multiple people, including a Bernie delegate to the DNC convention, from the club on the morning of a key endorsement vote.
No notice has gone out to members about October's meeting.
It's October 25th already.....they're running out of days.
The meeting is traditionally held on the final Thursday of the month, but there has been no clarification or notice to members.
Some are wondering if the club has suspended operations.
October is traditionally the month when members are nominated for leadership positions in the club. Those nominees are then voted on in November.
Could it be that the current board leadership is being selective about who is notified for the nomination meeting?

If you care about our City, it would a good idea to be there whether you are notified or not. (I haven't been notified.)

The website is definitely still down. 404 error - site not found. At first, I thought scrubbing, but that wouldn't take this long (or would it?) There definitely appears to be a shake-up. Perhaps King Summers is unhappy with some of his subjects and wishes to have a private meeting to put all of his company members back in to leadership positions.

Confirmed by the bylaws also, Article VII Section 1. "NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS OF OFFICERS: 1. There shall be a nomination meeting at the October general monthly meeting in even numbered years."Michael Deneen wrote:October is traditionally the month when members are nominated for leadership positions in the club.
(For those who have been following this story for a while, this differs from endorsement votes, which are traditionally held in September for November elections… but are not explicitly fixed to any particular month by the bylaws.)

With the web site down I don't have the bylaws handy. Does it say anything about notification about this meeting? Or whether it has to be held at the same location as previous meetings?mjkuhns wrote:Confirmed by the bylaws also, Article VII Section 1. "NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS OF OFFICERS: 1. Re: New Shenanigans at the Lakewood Democratic Club
Article IX specifies that monthly meetings have to be hold at a date and time fixed at the first meeting of the year. Those meetings included an October meeting on the 27th. (There's a procedure for scheduling a special meeting, but it's very difficult and nominations are specifically scheduled for "the October general monthly meeting" anyway.)
That's it as far as notice. I don't believe that there is anything in the bylaws about meeting location. While it was online, the web site said "2016 club meetings are on the LAST Thursday of the month at The Woman's Pavilion | Lakewood Park."
The County Democratic Party calendar lists the Lakewood Club as meeting in the regular place at the regular time, i.e. 7:30 p.m. this Thursday in the Woman's Club Pavilion.

Re: New Shenanigans at the Lakewood Democratic Club
Is this too paranoid? If we don't hear something by then, should we have people at other likely alternate sites prior to the meeting time (Masonic Temple, Akron U, etc.? Library meetings are public and therefore knowable, and would they be so brazen as to hold it at City Hall?mjkuhns wrote: I don't believe that there is anything in the bylaws about meeting location. I was about to post something else, and then I found that there's a discussion of this on Facebook right now.

Re: New Shenanigans at the Lakewood Democratic Club
If the club cared at all they would have posted a response on Facebook by now. Though I wonder if they have been sued. The website went silent and now no response for a simple request to clarify a meeting date? I haven't been a member for a while now but I don't recall any of this odd behavior in the past.

Re: New Shenanigans at the Lakewood Democratic Club
It is not new behavior to fail to notify some members of some meetings. I had always hoped that would stop, but it's a reason why any number of Dems failed to keep up with the club.
