Rossen and Parker have been banned from the Observation Deck?

Post by Patrick Wadden »

Am i next?........I think i am the only person left on the Deck that is FOR 64. So i found out that Corey was banned from the Deck until Nov 7th. I am not sure how long Kate E. Parker was banned for.

Lots of talk in this forum of free speech. Then you shut down Corey. But not Lori Allen? Yesterday Lori Allen implied someone is a racist with zero proof. Just that he named his businesses Plantation Home and Cotton. Ignorant and Childish but apparently completely acceptable and within the constantly moving rules of the Deck.

Is there a place on the Deck to view who is banned and for what and how long? It might help to better understand the boundaries.

If i get banned for posting this then i will assume that the first rule of getting banned from the deck is that you can't talk about being banned from the deck.

It probably needs to be mentioned that Mike Deneen first mentioned that the store was named Plantation. In my response, I stated that the names of the two stores were interesting, but could "very well be a coincidence".

I chuckle at the notion of "free speech" on the Deck. My understanding is that (1) the Observation Deck is privately-owned, and (2) you have no "rights" here that are not espressly granted to you by the owner. That also means there are no "rules" per se because they can be changed for any reason or for no reason at all. And if you don't like it you don't have to participate. Personally I think JOB has gone way too far in his accommodation of certain individuals who post here. Farther than I would probably have gone if I owned this forum. Kate was gratuitously obscene, and Corey just polluted the place, eating up column inches for no purpose other than to destroy threads.

And anybody who wants to start a competing forum, the mechanics are not that hard. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, take a quick gander, type "www.phpbb.com" into your browser, and have at it. Then set (and modify) your own "rules" the way you see fit. It would be your prerogative....

Good point, Ms. Allen. You know how those progressives are always agitating!
Here I thought the implication was elitism. The "faux-offended" reader declared it was racism, to better fit a faux-outrage.

I pointed out the names of those establishments. Then YOU introduced the notion of racism.

I don't disagree with you with regard to the privately owned forum. Maybe this thread should be moved to the "discussions about the Deck" Siberia forum.

Any chance we can get confirmation of who is/was banned? Clarification of why said people are/were banned? (And what else could cause one to get banned?) Any chance we can get an explanation of the process and who is involved? (Is the poster warned? Is this discussed by a committee?)

Great post. Right on the money.

Most people do not understand the precise meaning of Free Speech or the safeguards you have from the First Amendment.

That's painfully obvious here in Lakewood.

If I was Jim I would not disclose who was banned, and why. No good can come of that. Everyone needs to decide for himself/herself. Do I want to participate here, specifically? Given that I cannot do so anonymously. Given that the "rules" can be a work in progress, guidelines really. Etc. The either lurk, post, or don't. You decide for yourself.

And Pat, as for moving this thread to another forum, why? You originated it here, under Lakewood General Discussions. And when someone says "I don't disagree" that means they agree....

Let's not jump to conclusions here, either.

So Corey hadn't posted in like, what - 12 hours? OMG what happened to him?

Patrick Wadden, are you assuming Corey was "banned" because he isn't posting non-stop, as usual? Or, did he tell you he was banned?

I recall Corey getting his kicks out of posting that someone "hacked" into his "private" account here and it turned out to be nothing of the sort. (as if you have some valuables in your "account"

So perhaps we should just take the accusation that he was banned as just that - an allegation - unless we hear otherwise.

And again, Tim is right - perhaps it's none of our business

Mr. Liston,

You are spot on.

If I owned the Deck, Mr./Ms. Rossen would have been gone a long time ago.

Mr./Ms. Rossen was comparable to a patron coming to a restaurant, burping, farting and making a scene--and never buying anything--and telling everyone on the place the food had bugs in it.

Any restaurant owner would throw the jerk out the first time he did it and call the Police if he tried to come back.

What proof is there he/she has been banned?

Is Corey still banned until the 7th? Can he be let back in early? You know, for good behavior or timed served?

Is there a probation period once a person has been welcomed back to the deck after a ban?

Patrick, I can't say a lot and, in fact, I shouldn't be saying anything. But I'm not here because of lockstep thinking. So,
a) you are all right
b) we need more people with your views

I wish Councilman Anderson had stuck around. He was helping me make sense of City Hall's views.
