West End "WE" Returns Bigger Than Ever
I have gotten calls over the past week from businesses about the new group "WE" for "West End." It seems the Beck Theater group has decided to bring their marketing prowness to the area formerly called "MidTown," to the area between the Detroit Bridge and Cranford Ave.? Not sure where this leaves Bobby O's.
While some found it distasteful to bring up Lakewood's biggest Civil War, in the middle of a current Civil War, I find it amazing, that anyone would even do it.
The West End is a long established bar in the Scenic Park (resident's name) or "Georgetown Square" (business owners). To steal it again for a BS marketing term, seems wrong, and very unimaginative for a new group.
Hell even the West End's first meeting is so far out of the West End John Daly could not even get a ball there on long drive with roll.
Could someone come up with an original idea just once in awhile.
Do the businesses of MidTown really need to steal and Co-Op the cool of the west side of Lakewood?
Please rethink this, Even South Carolina took down the Stars and Bars finally.

Please give us more information. What group? Who is running it? Where are they meeting?

I have only gotten a couple calls. Same as always, "I give to everything, why are they asking for more from us?" "What do we have to do with the West End? Why are we advertising his place blocks away?
It would seem it is an adhoc group spearheaded by pointers back towards The Beck who openly dreamed of "an entertainment district" remember the drawings?
I thought that might have been interesting then the theater was torn down, then McKinley was homes...
To bring back the name West End is some form of cruel torture on the businesses and residents in the neighborhoods.
I wonder if they even remember the push by Ward 1 residents to make Ward 1 dry? I was a pretty solid effort stopped by open discussions eventually, but many are still mad.
Which would be a terrible outcome, get rid of the hospital then run the drinkers out.
We would have nothing but wire jewelry and the Recruitment office!

West End issue was 15 - 20 years ago? Maybe people in Lakewood don't remember. Maybe people in Lakewood don't even know. Maybe Lakewood has a young crowd trying to break through as the city continues to turn over with youth (mid 20's and still night owls). Maybe some people in Lakewood are turning out to be the new version of the old guard. Maybe...

You are missing the point, perhaps a little rusty.
They have every right to form a group. I would rather see a SID (Special Interest District) like Coventry, Downtown Chagrin Falls, Old Detroit Road.
That way the owners of the business are responsible, and residents have little say, as they do not use our money.
I am not in favor of groups that provide a middle person and take 20% off the top. for management.
The Beck Center when they announced the capital program years ago with a new facade, openly talked about an "Entertainment District."
Which makes sense.
You have the Beck, GV Art, and Sweet Designs, and the best they can come up with is "The West End?"
Underwhelming.
Go back to Midtown Entertainment District. Hell one sign is up already.
Corey, the future belongs to the youth.
They better wake up, because their parents and grand parents are squandering their future on old stale plans from the past.

A photo of Councilman Kevin Butler having a meeting with residents, to solve the problem before a group pushed for Ward 1 to go dry.
Corey,
I mention this as someone talking to many people in the area that are getting tired of drunks flowing into residential neighborhoods.
Now one would think this new group is to grow business, which spills into the residential neighborhoods, and angers residents.
So you would think this new group would want to come out fresh, and get in front of problems with the residents. Catchy new name, SID, funded by the businesses, announcing patrols of the neighborhoods paid for by the businesses, new iron work and benches paid for by the businesses, etc.
WE! (West End) yawn.
The last thing we need, is residents reacting badly to the entertainment industry. We are the new Flats, err West Bank, err West, never mind.

I guess this is where you are missing my point. "West End" is new to the youth.
People get to a certain age where 5 years ago was really 10 years ago, and 10 years ago was really 20+ years ago. The old "West End" verbiage falls into the "when I was young category."

This is where you miss my point.
You are too old to speak too the youth or for the youth.
The West End is one of the oldest busiest places on the West Side.
I have to give you a credit, you do think like a millennial.
I wasn't alibe during the West End Strip Mall debacle, I forgot it was underwhelming and throwing people out of their homes, and I know nothing of The West End Bar, so I will use West End because it is young and fresh, and I invented it?
I call Gary Rice on you!

Of course! Hey maybe we can offer to trade Summers & Insiders to Westlake (or Avon!) where they can wrangle some land to develop and leave Lakewood to prosper without fraud.Stan Austin wrote:Crocker ParkBridget Conant wrote: Where are they meeting?

Your word jive is drifting. You say West End and mean the term then change the meaning to the West End Tavern. I can't keep up with your word dancing, it keeps changing partners.Jim O'Bryan wrote:Corey Rossen wrote:I guess this is where you are missing my point. "West End" is new to the youth.

Did someone mention my name?
Respectfully, how can I dance with anyone here?

I keep thinking that in the year that Daniel Berrigan died, (priest , professor, activist) how depressingly inadequate it is not to take a stand. How complicit it is to be content being a guilty bystander.Gary Rice wrote:Did someone mention my name?![]()

Re: West End "WE" Returns Bigger Than Ever
It's funny how this suddenly surfaces about a month before the vote. Do they really have any plans to do anything? In my opinion, it could just be a distraction technique to derail people's minds from the seemingly corrupt hospital deal and other questionable activity that Summers & Co. appear to be involved in, not to mention the seemingly terrible job Mike Summers is doing in virtually all aspects of running the city.
It is important that we do not let this get in the way of letting everyone know what Summers & Co. appear to be doing. It is crucial that everything questionable about Summers & Co. and the deal is exposed now. The timing of this surfacing is perfect for a distraction.

We can talk winning and losing on November 9th, until then, vote to make Lakewood Better, Bote for Accountability at City Hall, vote against 64.
I cannot say there is anything nefarious happening. It seems a combination of trying to borrw cool, cash in on something and keep the area vibrant, at this time.
As I mentioned, and I will look for the images, Cindy Einhouse, had a new building surrounded by Times Square Marquis, and lots of color. This is a natural extension of her vision. Like I said there was at least one "Entertainment District" sign put up.
Too me, it was an unfortunate choice of words. But according to one old person the young people want that? Invent new terms? They like it fresh?????
