Bob Evans, Down On The f Farm

Post by jackie f taylor »

I heard an advertisement, Bob Evans, special, 6 hr slow roasted Turkey Breast dinner, $6.99. I thought, it's fall, why not, I tried to order on line, was not able at this location. what? So I drove there, went in, I ask about the Turkey dinner special, she said, "you get 2 oz of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, I ask, does it come with a side? She says, I think so, I said, well I'd like to be sure, and not guess. She went in back and brought another fella out, he explained the quantity and portions included with my order. He says, the adult dinner includes 2 scoops of dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, a side dish and bread, $10.79

I ask, do you actually cook and mash your potatoes here? No he said, it comes in a container, we just heat it up. I thought, (Gordon Food Service) well, ok, I placed my order, the adult dinner, I waited for them to re- heat, I SAID re-heat my order, it arrived, and I went home, I took a peak, 4 slices of, looked like "deli sliced turkey breast" , pre packaged mashed potatoes, pre packaged dressing, gravy, green beans, all of it. the only thing I got that was "Farm Fresh" was the biscuits, What about there slogan, "BRING FARM-FRESH FLAVOR TO YOUR TABLE" THERE IS NOTHING "FARM FRESH" AT BOB EVANS except the eggs, sausage, biscuits, and maybe a few other things.

Now I eat at many a different places, some I like, some not so much, I get what I pay for and I get just what I expect. but don't tell me I'm getting a farm fresh goodness from your farm to my table, when it is the furthest thing from the truth. I'll eat it, like a grateful homeless man, who has had nothing in two days.

There needs to be a law, where restaurants have to disclose, where they get, who made it and who supplied there food. I want to know.

Back in the day, farm fresh goodness meant, grandpa or dad would go out in the field, pick the vegetables, the fruits, the chicken and bring it into to mom to fix for dinner, that was farm fresh goodness, not prepared and refrigerated in plastic containers and re-heated. Tell me what I'm getting for my buck. I can buy "OnCor" without the lies. I don't care to be mislead.

The last time I went to a Bob Evans (the one off of 71 and Snow) it was plain lousy. And you could just tell it wasn't a one-off. It was something chronic.

As restaurants' costs have increased over the years, and their clientele's wherewithal has withered, restaurants have had to choose. Either keep the same price points and decrease quality, or keep up the quality and raise prices. Bob Evans chose the former. Knowing that, I will never go back.

Restaurants in general have become very disappointing, especially the chains. I eat out very rarely these days.

I will give my opinion, I will tell you of my experience, I will tell you what I think about everything and anything. I owe no favors to anyone, just what I've felt, seen, and experienced.

Farm Fresh Goodness is a lie and a fraud, I demand an investigation. False advertising, to say the least...

The only menu item that is actually "cooked" at Bob Evans are eggs. Everything else comes precooked or frozen and is just heated up. Walk into a Bob Evans kitchen - it is full of microwaves. That being said, I do enjoy breakfast there and absolutely love the biscuits.

To add to Amy's content. Bob Evans have been marketing their food frozen in stores all over the place for a long time.

Are the pancakes fresh or frozen?

Pancakes made from pre-mix batter, same with the waffles. Bacon and sausage precooked and heated. Sandwiches - meat is prepacked, same with produce. Burgers are cooked to order. Very little actual cooking takes place at Bob Evans. Soups are frozen and reheated. Same with pot roast, chicken dinners, etc. Desserts are pre-made and assembled/baked at each store.

Let me state that I do believe that Bob Evans fills a certain niche and we are lucky to have our own in Lakewood.

If you want home made breakfast food that is actually cooked, you have to go to a place like the Shore.

Or, alternatively, one could cook at home and then make sure that everything is fresh and made to order. This could just be me but I really enjoy cooking breakfast for the family at home. And it saves money, too.

interesting Amy, What about the advertising ? "Farm Fresh" I have such fond memories of Thanksgiving dinner at home, mom made everything from scratch. There is nothing "made from scratch" at the home of Bob Evans, there Turkey dinner is awful, it would be acceptable if they didn't use the phrase, Farm Fresh. I could get a pound of turkey breast lunch meat from any grocery store, what is the difference? I wrote B E about this, they haven't responded.
