Cleveland Clinic Moves MRI Machine Out of Lakewood ?

In November of 2015, after being questioned about the ability of a downsized ER at Lakewood being able to handle the usual demand, Chief Gilman wrote:

As for 10,000 patients having no where to go how about trying primary care physicians. Many of the back logs in ER's are from patients that should be seeing a family doctor and don't really need the emergency room.



So obviously the fire chief believes far too many ER visits are not really justified. But, now he says we need to support the ER, which I presume means to use it, or we risk losing it.

My, my. To go, or not to go? That is the question.

Those aren't just Chief Gilman's opinions. It's been the established opinion for many, many years now by all the experts. People with lousy health insurance or no health insurance end up in the ER instead of visiting their family doctor, costing everybody else that comes there more (to cover the cost of their visit which they cannot pay for).

I think the issue here is the hypocrisy between his two statements.

I'm really trying to understand the inference of that statement. Is it that, if Big Daddy Summers and The Clinic perceive us as petulant children they will take away our ER privileges. Or are you suggesting that we rush to the faux ER with every scrape and bruise received, just to keep the numbers up, in the joke of a hope that the Clinic will determine that the faux ER is viable a year from now.

Yes, can we get some elaboration please with documentation and facts to back it up?

Also,I think many of us would like to see the documentation showing that patients with critical, time-sensitive, life-threatening ailments or injuries have been taken to Lakewood's alleged "ER", treated, and sent right home with no transfer or inpatient stay. Documentation also backing up this claim would be ideal. Thanks.

I will diligently continue to use the new ER as often as I used the old hospital and ER, which is to say "not at all." Not once in the 20 years I've lived here.

Brass tacks: The Clinic, like many other hospitals, are going after private payer insurance dollars. They pay more, quicker, and with no red tape compared to Centers for Medicare/Medicaid (CMS). What has ruined healthcare is government intrusion. Period. People were more than willing to give up their free choice of cheap medical services in exchange for cookie cutter healthcare. This was orchestrated by the large institutions of the the time like the Rockefeller and Carnegie Foundations. Well heck, here's the article:

It's a two parter. This is still does not excuse the Clinic's use of public monies to fund their operations but it happens almost everywhere. Corporations always push the costs to the taxpayers.

I have been waiting at least a week for a reply from Chief Gilman regarding concern that the numbers have dropped so low we will not have a 24/7 full-service ER.

I believe he answered the question. The question asked by Bill Call was "has the MRI been moved out and will the new ER have an MRI?". The answer to that question is NO, the MRI has not been moved out. And YES, the MRI will remain in the new ER.

Short of a last minute submission, tomorrow will mark day 4 of Mr. Gilman ducking an explanation pertaining to his curious and somewhat admonishing statement that " The ER at Lakewood continues to be a community asset and will remain that way if it is supported by the community."

Disappointed that Mr. Gilman has yet to clarify this statement so I will infer that the master agreement does not guarantee emergency medical services will be available in our community and that if the ER is not sufficiently "supported by the community" it will no longer remain a community asset.

Wow! It appears that Gilman can post on the Deck about all of us posting lies, and yet, when asked for proof, nothing. I believe this is typical behavior for someone who has backed themselves into a corner! Mr. Monahan has also asked Gilman for the amount of patients per month that have been seen at the Lakewood Urgi-Care since February 5th of this year. What, no response? Perhaps Gilman is hiding behind the Hippa law again!

I assume that Giman's silence is due to fact that he has nothing to show. Makes you wonder how much of what he cries out to the citizens here in Lakewood is really true!
