Re: OK This Time, Question For SLH People
Brian,
You are exactly right. Let us not forget that if Summers and council were doing their jobs and looking out for their residents, they would have filed a law suit against the Clinic for breach of contract. Who were the LHA city players during the time this deal was going down? Bullock, Madigan, Summers and let us not forget good old John Litten. Currently, Madigan has landed a cushy job working under Budish, a job that I believe she is nor qualified for. We are still stuck with Summers and Bullock. It appears that LHA's John Litten has now become a front runner in the Summer's Mafia, minus the guns. Does anyone else living in Ward 3 notice that it appears that Litten hasn't done anything to improve the housing stock or safety of the city? It appears that he amazingly won the council seat and is just there to help Summers push through, what appears to be, an immoral and illegal hospital scam.
I wonder how Mr. Litten can be in charge of the Saint Vincent De Paul Society for the Cleveland Catholic Diocese, and then appear to help plot the theft of a community's hospital with the help of Summers and Company. Hmmmmm.

Like wow!
I have to come forward, I have friendships, had friendships and or at least had coffee with everyone in this thread. Full disclosure.
I also have to admit, that while I have socialized with these people, I was not an insider that broke out, or got de-programmed.
This time it came from a delivery guy, that said the strangest thing, and I thought, "Bill Call is finally right! Damn!"
Carry on.

"I hope they are not mad, for the first time ever we were asked to only provide services through June." I asked did they change any other contracts at other hospitals and he said, "No. Full year" and went on his way.Bill Call wrote:Ok,you got my interest. Right about it closing, finally.
Everyone knew it was leaving, you and I would argue over timelines for years. CCF had always been honest with timelines before, as they were with this time. I do believe the Cleveland Clinic wanted to go public as quickly as possible after the LOI was submitted. H
The only misinformation and outright lies seem to be coming from City Hall, Bullock, and those caught in the nightmare with their pants down.
We all forget. None of us were even supposed to know until June 16th. 6 days after registration to run closed for council and mayoral races. Had no one know, no one would have run. Get it. With no opposition, the Mayor could work full time delivering a, errr, ahhh, errrr "Healthiest City In America" Then they would have rolled out $120 million in new development, which they did. A not true statement, ever. They would start to tear down the buildings, just as we told from Jay's Active Living Task Force, we need a Rec Center, Soccer Fields and a group to manage all of it. From there they run variations that commercial economic development is a health issue, and housing is a wellness issue, and anything can mean anything as long as we control the money and jobs issue.
Two gold filled pots, LHF and Active Living Thing-A-Ma-Bob.
Summers goes from zero to hero again.
Bill, as you know I basically wrote this, the day you and Markling became Nostradamus. You, Brian Essi, Markling, Bill and DL, Margarette, and others are heroes, Worthy of history references, and statues. Everyone's dedication and hard work should make a city and the residents proud.

I don't give CCF a pass. They approached it with bad intent.

Let me try to put it this way.
Chance of holding Cleveland Clinic responsible, very small, very tough.
Chance of holding elected officials involved accountable, very high, courts on our side.
Hold officials accountable, find out what happened, if any of it is actionable, go get them.
If not, let's figure out what is next.
But we are not even allowed to see the paperwork. Hear the truth? See the real deal?

Jim,

is not entirely accurate...have you forgotten that originally the CCF said that they would keep Lakewood Hospital running until the Avon Hospital they were building was up and running in September 2016? Remember, this was all a part of Summer's "good news" announcement in January 2015. Closing Lakewood in February 2016 was not a part of their "honest timeline".
In fact, the CCF has had a very hard time being honest about any of this..."decanting plan" or "centers of excellence" or "healthcare is changing" anyone? The list goes on.
I agree, the real problem is our city government. Imagine the CCF's glee in finding a partner (Summers and his buddies) as low-down and greedy as they are!

I still believe Lakewood government at the time, found an eager partner in CCF. And I have pointed out many, many times. Any sane person would have taken the deal that was offered by Lakewood.
I believe time will prove me right on this.

Good post.
I was told by One of the Councilmembers on December 5, 2015 words to the effect that "they are trying to make the agreement so good that it will be very hard to defeat the referendum [that everyone knew was coming]. "
I was also told by LHA Insiders that moving up the hospital closing of inpatient operations to February, 2015 and demolition of the Garage and Medical Arts Building this month etc. we're done solely with the goal of defeating the inevitable referendum.
So these facts point to another instance in which our all of our elected leaders at the time, Insiders and CCF did not give a damn about the healtcare and will of the people.
Their sole goal was "to win." That is the stated goal of the Rebranded Insiders PAC for Faux Progress.
The Cheerleaders of this Evil--O'Leary and Bullock are owned by CCF who will help them in their political futures.

Re: OK This Time, Question For SLH People
We were PROMISED that the hospital would remain open at least until September, or whenever the Avon HOSPITAL opened.
We see how long the kept that promise! As soon as Council signed off on the terrible "deal," they got out of town at lightning speed. Why? Because no court would ever require them to restore and reopen the hospital and they knew it. It guaranteed their exit.
I find it interesting that 0'Leary is so confident that the referendum won't make any difference. Then why bother mounting opposition?
Pretty sad when elected officials snub their noses at constituents, the people they are sworn to serve, and publicly declare that they don't plan to adhere to the results of a public vote.

A couple things, first I believe harlots get a better deal and a better percentage, though potentially the same healthcare plan.
It has been fascinating observing O'Leary turn into a young Bullock, someone he loathed as an elected official.
"To Won" is the problem, "Win at any costs" damn with residents, businesses, honesty, future, democracy, facts, get it done no matter who asks what. Saw it with these people at the Est End Debacle, saw it surface in the Lincoln/Grant Debacle, and the same group have delivered us to this civil war too.
My personal belief is that CCF cared about 51,000 Lakewoodites as potential clients that could get sick. They still have the closest hospital so were desperate to avoid a PR Nightmare. know the original plan was to not alienate Lakewood residents. When the Mayor screwed up every aspect of the deal including roll out, I believe they got frustrated, saw it as the PR nightmare it is, and just want it over with. I believe the term used was promised a slam dunk.
But what would I know?
The entire city knows we need to hold elected officials accountable, and the only way right now is to support the Referendum. Not for the hospital, not for the money, not for the fight, but because we all know City Hall is out of control.

Re: OK This Time, Question For SLH People
Jennifer Pae wrote this in another forum about the closure of Lakewood Hospital:
"The economic impact to Northeast Ohio of the transition to an outpatient medical facility with an emergency department is ZERO. "
I think that statment inadvertently reveals the thinking behind the Hospitals closure. The Mayor and his friends are thinking about what is best for the region.
I wonder, would the City Councils in Avon or Twinsburg give away 1,500 jobs and hundreds of millions in economic activity because they were told it was good for the region?
As I recall, when Mayor Summers asked the Mayor of Avon to share the increase in income taxes Avon would receive from Lakewood Hospitals business the Mayor of Avon NO.
Maybe someone should have explained to him the impotrance of thinking regionally.

Re: OK This Time, Question For SLH People
Moving hospitals around within a region may not have a net effect on the entire region, but it WILL effect the community that lost one while benefitting the one who gained a new facility. So what? How does that help LAKEWOOD?
We are losing out -losing the hospital, losing tax dollars, losing business, and losing people. How long is that sustainable?
Why are we so complacent about giving away OUR ASSET to another county?
That's really OK with Ms Pae? Maybe she needs to take some more classes and get herself up to speed on economics and not just POLITICS.
