Greek Village - OPEN Yeow! OH YEAH!

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

About 5 days ago I posted the question if Greek Village was closing? Mentioned it was one of the best values in town, that I was a regular, but, social media people grab it as they do, and like a visual game of telephone, each poster using it for a springboard into their views, and a never ending tumbling of a message, it churned. Unfortunately, rarely is the original message repeated.

That is, when I finally got in touch with the owner of Greek Village, Tommy Karakostas. "We are not closed, you're wrong" to paraphrase. "Tommy, I asked if one of my regulars favorites were closed? Did you read it?" He answered, "No, it was crazy, all the phones overloaded with calls and posts it was nuts." It doesn't matter what Tommy wanted me to know and to let others know Greek Village is OPEN FOR BUSINESS.

Tommy pointing to OPEN SIGN or the guy that started it? Me? What can I say?

It is not often a person gets to attend their own funeral, but Tommy did, kind of. And he came out of it with a renewed spirit. "The amount of love and concern people showed to me and the restaurant was amazing and appreciated." I mean he goes from the middle of a social media nightmare, but his many friends turned a funeral for Greek Village into a toast and show of love, appreciation, and community. The week it was closed, and then the out pouring of love, reminded me of the story of Chilean Miners that were trapped underground for 65 days. OK maybe a little hyperbole.

This time he is pointing at the problem, no doubt. It was dark, it was night, I was hungry, I panicked. Who hasn't been there before?

Greek Village is back open, and the Gyros I picked up today reminded me of its best days ever! You have to admit, they are damn good, possibly addicting, the grape leaves some of the best around, and for value it is hard to beat.

Tommy, thanks for the call, sorry about the thousands of calls, but hey, it's all good!,

No, those Gyros were great!

Thanks both of you guys for this post. I like the restaurant being open. I like the direct honesty.

And I like the humor, especially today.

All the sudden infamy probably won't be bad for business. I for one welcome the news that the sign is turned back on.

Greek Village was one of those many storefronts in Lakewood I'd pass by nearly every day and never think much about stopping. Now it's high on our list to check out. So what Dru says is right, at least in my case.
