What happened to the "Lakewood Family Health Center"?

Post by Bill Call »

Just wondering. During the campaign people from the Mayors office were telling us that the new Family Health Center would employ hundreds of people and offer dozens of on site services. All that is left is the so called Emergency Room.

One Build Lakewood supporter was telling people we would have in Lakewood something similar to what they have in Twinsburg.

Something like this:

interesting .. . I am having surgery next month and asked if I could have my pre-admissions testing at Lakewood since I live within walking distance. I was told that Lakewood Hospital no longer performs these. . ..

The "Family Health Center" already exists --- it is my doctor's office located across the street from Harding Middle School.
The name on the building actually is "Cleveland Clinic Family Health Center".

When it moves down to Detroit Road, it will have some doctors offices and blood test lab.
It will leave behind a vacant property....I'm not sure how the building could be repurposed.

I would guess the entire Hilliard-Madison Triangle will be targeted for redevelopment once CCF leaves and I wouldn't be surprised if there are already plans in place. I recall when I was on the board of Lakewood Community Care Center we were dealing with the possibility of having to move the center because of some plan the city was floating but I can't recall the specifics though I am pretty sure Cain was the mayor at the time.

That doesn't seem feasible. There is still the gas station, Silver Coast Apartments, the day care, and Italian Creations.
Plus, developers should be skeptical of that location for housing....too much traffic.
Medical offices are no longer an option without the hospital.
Retail is also out of the question....Lakewood already has enough, and Amazon continues to decimate that industry.

So true. I wonder why in the world these people think retail is going to be so great for the city. Study after study has concluded that the Greater Cleveland metropolitan area is "over-retailed." We are saturated with retail so much that any new opening means at least one more store will bite the dust.

The family health center is currently at the old lakewood Hospital.

Out patient services still exist. WE have ER of course Cardiovascular Testing, Radiology, Lab.

The parking garage is set to be torn down after the 4th of July some time along with the professional medical building.

They were set to start construction around or after labor day.

but what im not understanding is what about the Vote come November for the city to amend the referendum. if that vote goes through, how can they still build the health center if the hospital was indded bought out ??

It will be messy, but it is a mess made by our current city government (minus Dan O'Malley). In my personal opinion, if/when the referendum passes, the whole thing goes back to the city officials responsible, with the instruction: "You broke it. You fix it." if they are unwilling to fix it, then we should consider further actions to get people in office who will fix it. Remember, they (at least the Council candidates) encouraged the referendum in lieu of Issue 64. They knew it was coming.

I'm curious about he parking garage. It's my understanding that engineering consultants were engaged, and construction repairs made to correct any deficiencies in the structure. Yet was the garage not sold as unsound and in such disrepair that it's a blessing that CCF is here to demolish it to save it, for the greater good? The greater good.

If so, someone should be able to acquire engineering reports as to the state of the structure and it's repairs over time, the $$ used to affect those repairs, and a more recent engineering report that "condemns" it to its disrepair, fate, and destruction as sold via the Master Agreement.

What's interesting about this exercise is that these should be objective engineering reports, and not subjective opinion as to the viability of the structure. If the reports show the garage to be in good repair, then it's another aspect of the narrative of lies foisted upon the owners of the facility - the citizens of Lakewood. Public records request, someone?

That was their way of proverbially "kicking the can down the road" .. or proverbially "buying time."

Here is what we will be getting folks:

My family were patients here a few years ago, and trust me, they will not be employing hundreds of people. Other than finger sticks, blood work will be drawn and sent to another CCF facility for processing. Any x-rays taken on sight will be read by a family practice physician and then forwarded to a CCF radiologist elsewhere for confirmation. I did have a couple of doctors there that were decent, some not so. It is a residency training program for CCF Family Practice. So, basically, it is a doctors in training office with a lab.

I never could get my arms around why they'd want to tear down the parking structure. For years I've been hearing (and experiencing first hand) that the greatest need for downtown Lakewood is more parking, but building a parking garage on one of the municipal lots would be too expensive. So now they are in a hurry to tear this one down. Yes it's a little more distant from the Detroit shopping, but it's parking. They could run a shuttle van. Maybe they are figuring that if the hospital is gone forever downtown business will decline to the point where they won't need more parking any more.

The city does not care about where the parking garage is or when it was last repaired. CCF wants that spot and Lord Lakewood and Company have given it to them. I think this conversation is futile.

This is what "they" want ... First and Main Shopping District / Hudson Ohio. http://www.firstandmainhudson.com/ This was the model for the proposed West End project ... and it's what keeps "them" up at night thinking "how can Lakewood do this, too?"

I think the shopping ideas were for the hospital site, not the parking garage site. There won't be any retail lot going in where the garage is. They had the drawing in the Sun Post a few weeks ago of the Center for Family Medicine Building.
