With this furniture out on tree lawns all week, we could start having council meetings outside!

All of the city employees, councilmen, Lord, etc. that drive some of these streets every day. Apparently, none of them see anything. Standing ovation to them!

This is all stuff that was out on Memorial Day. This is the respect that people have.

Now, it makes me wonder: what type of residents are Summers & Company attracting to Lakewood? What are they doing to attract high-quality residents? It is at all possible that low-quality residents are being attracted and encouraged deliberately? Think about it, if you don't have enough class or brains to figure out when to put garbage out, are you really going to care about what your city leaders are doing? More on rentals and "low-quality" residents coming later. Meanwhile, take a moment to relax and admire the class and respect of your Lakewood neighbors:

Out of the homes with trash listed in this video, 69.5% of them are rental property. What are we doing to encourage owner-occupied housing and responsible landlords?

Just to let you folks out there know, my neighbor informed me that you can call the police at the non-emergency number which is 521-6773 to report garbage set outs on your street and the police will come out and make them take it in.

Can we make this the trash and grass thread?

Garbage may sit out a couple days, but a bad lawn sits for weeks. Look at this ridiculousness:

What some of you see as trash-- others (me) see as potential furnishings for our home

Lori

I have generally found this post unduly hard on Trash Collection staff, that with so much less has been asked to do so much more.

The general problem for me is notthe side streets off the beaten path, but it would appear more efforts need to be done there as well, but it is the bloody, bodily fluid stained mattresses as was the case back in 2006.

The discussion of this in 2006.

Last week, for a couple days, eventually picked up. I fault the apartments and people that put them there, but "Welcome to Lakewood" or "Welcome To The Canyon."

I saw those mattresses but didn't have my phone with me to take a picture.

What a "Welcome to Lakewood" sight they were!

Why is this thread hard on our garbage collection workers? They aren't the ones filling the tree lawns on the wrong day.

Todd

One of the many problems with Social Media, one person writes one thing, someone else reads it wrong, and Rosanne Rosananadana enters the room.

I took the call for trash collectors to deviate from their routes, and laying it on their feet, when they are working on insane schedules, to be a tad harsh on the working man.

Could I have read it wrong, happens all the time.

Whoa there! Where in this thread (or forum, for that matter) have I ever criticized any of the public works people? If anything, I frequently mention the hardships they endure due to lack of manpower and funding, as well as cutbacks from City Hall. In case anyone has forgotten, I will list below the hardships that these people endure on a daily basis:

- Broken radios in the trucks, or no radios in the trucks at all.
- Doors falling off of Cushmans
- Trucks leaking hydraulic fluid all over the road
- Broken fuses in the trucks
- Broken trash compactors
- Automated pick-up arms on the trucks that break
- Mattresses and furniture covered in bed bugs

Also, it appears that Summers can designate anyone he wants to enforce this and give out fines, according to city code:
1701.02 ENFORCEMENT. The Mayor or Director of Public Safety, and any officer or employee designated for that purpose by the Mayor or Director of Public Safety are hereby charged with the enforcement of this Sanitary Code. (Ord. 59-08. Passed 7-21-08.)
Ultimately however, the enforcement duties lie on Summers. This is not my opinion. It is in the code.

As if our overworked trash collectors are not working hard enough, I believe I saw a garbage person cutting grass on a private property yesterday (presumably because the owner did not do so). Is this in their union contract? Are they being paid overtime? If not, it may be time for them to contact their union rep.

I also praised these people on the thread regarding the privatizing of trash collection.

The goal of this thread is not to criticize any of the public works people. Perhaps the overall goal is to depict that Summers & Company are not attracting high-quality residents. Rather, they are attracting low-quality residents (almost all renters) that move out at the end of the month when they lose their Section 8 housing, and throw the entire contents of their house on the tree lawn (usually on a Saturday afternoon, when garbage day is Friday). They do this because they can go down to the government office and get all new stuff for free or very cheap, but that is for another thread.

If anyone is in doubt about my feelings about the garbage people, please refer back to this post. The posts will continue until I see an improvement by Summers.
