Department of the Interior House on Edgewater

Post by Lori Allen _ »

According to county records, the U.S. Department of the Interior owns the house at 12992 Edgewater. This is a single-family house built in 1950. Does anyone know what this is used for? It seems rather odd. I was going to call the DOI and ask, but I thought maybe there is a simple answer that someone might know here. Thanks.

Lori,

This home serves as the residence of the U.S. Coast Guard Commander of Region 9, the Great Lakes Region. Region 9 Headquarters is located in downtown Cleveland.
Then Rear Admiral Robert J. Papp, Jr. lived in this home during his tenure as Commander of District 9. Admiral Papp as later promoted to overall Commandant of the entire U. S. coast Guard (2010-2014). Another former Lakewood resident who has met with success.
PS. This home is located on the "Edgewater extension" which originally was to connect Edgewater between Nicholson and Parkside with Edgewater between Cove and Highland.

It's a lovely home and actually quite modest. I had the pleasure of visiting numerous times while serving at USCG Ninth District Office. It was occupied at that time (late 80's) by then-District Commander RADM Arnie Danielson.
