read the above article. this is a women's rights issue. period.
salo is speaking his mind. his posts have not been mean spirited but the replies to him have. it's ok to disagree but when the name calling starts, ryan wins. how do you people not see that?
nice to see you, eisel.

I fail to see how calling LGBT folks perverted, anti-christian, etc. is not mean-spirited.

so I just re-read salo's posts and he never said that anyone was anti-Christian. he didn't use the word perverted either. those terms you came up with by yourself. gives one pause to wonder.Amy Martin wrote:I fail to see how calling LGBT folks perverted, anti-christian, etc. is not mean-spirited.
and I love the LGBT acronym being thrown around so freely on this thread when really only one part of that blanket is what is being discussed here. it's about transgendered people. and not even that really, it's about pre-op transgendered people.
I like to pick and choose which penises I gaze upon. I don't want them to pick and choose me.

Thanks, Jeff, for pointing out Ryan's actual words, which are much more hurtful than those I referred to

Re: Transgender Bathrooms
First, thank you very much to Missy for her response. You're a very strong woman. And thank you to everyone else for your continued support.
Sexual assault and harassment is already against the law. If a pervert is going to to try to assault someone, an arbitrary rule won't stop them. There is no need to penalize millions of innocent transgender citizens, like myself, for actions we did not commit.
As I said, me and all of the trans women I know have been using women's facilities for years and there has never been a problem with it. You have probably sat next to many trans people in your lifetime and never realized a thing. All we are asking for is to codify non-discrimination policies. Does that legalize rape? No, that's ridiculous. What should the criteria be for who gets to use a gendered facility? Would it be based off driver's license or passport? Both of mine list me as female. Or birth certificate? In which case, I'm still listed as male - because Ohio is one of three states that does not allow any gender changes on a birth certificate for anyone regardless of surgery, hormones, etc. Or are we going to institute good old-fashioned genital police to check everyone before they enter? That seems a bit invasive.
It seems to me that the most fair solution would be to provide a few private facilities for anyone who wants to opt out of the communal facility, and anyone who objects so much to even possibly sharing a room with a transperson can go use those. But don't punish the rest of us because of your prejudices.

Re: Transgender Bathrooms
This is a transgender female, Canadian model and beauty pageant winner Jenna Tacklova. Born male, according to current understanding.
Should she be forced to use the men's bathroom?
Do you want more pictures? There are hundreds on Google. Yet according to the North Carolina law, her birth certificate says Male and she should use the men's room.
And to kate E parker, why do you think you'd be forced to "gaze upon penises?" In the ladies rooms I've utilized, there are separate stalls. If ANYONE was flashing ANY of their parts, male OR female, I'd contact security. It's a bathroom, not a sexual encounter, and no one should be flashing anything. What makes you think transgender people, more than any other people, want to flash their parts to you?

I also find it interesting that the presumptive Republican Presidential candidate also believes that Caitlyn Jenner should use a women's bathroom and would be welcomed to do so in Trump Tower . . .

It is tough for many Republicans, because many of their best in the senate think of bathrooms the same way others think of bars, meetings, get a date locations.
