:D

Fortunately - and to another point made earlier - not many are "fleeing." We appear to have just 70 or so single-family homes for sale in Lakewood today, which must be near an all-time low for inventory.
That's great, as I mentioned some see the value.... others "do not get it"

It seems about the same as it has always been. I own rental properties, I have friends that own doubles and apartment buildings in Lakewood. I have friends in every corner of Lakewood. Seems the same to me. Could it be better? Sure. Is it RAMPANT? Not really.

Thanks Dan O'Malley for sharing the facts.

Out of curiosity, what are thoughts on keeping porch lights on all night? Is that safer/not-safer or have any effect on chance of a burglary?

This came up in discussion the other night so was curious what others think.

No supporting data, but I prefer motion lights that activate after it's dark. I figure that lights on all night may (or may not) be annoying to neighbors and walkers by.... if they get in a vicinity that could cause concern, then they are very well illuminated and hopefully caught by surprise. I have a nice porch light design (not a "flood light") that also has motion activation.

We had a couple of break ins on our street a few years ago. Both happened in broad daylight. Both were witnessed by neighbors who "didn't want to get involved"

Best deterrent is a home security system. Used to think that a dog was a deterrent but both of the houses that were broken in to had dogs at home.

I've been having these recurring fantasies about a gang of women burglars breaking in and having their way with me

there is no such thing as a "rape fantasy" for women. I find your post revolting.

We keep a pretty close eye on the neighborhood, and in 18 years we've had no problems, even over here in Ward 4, home of the "Best Place in Lakewood To Get Shot." We've got great renter stability right now, probably the best ever for our time here. Nothing but domestics as far as police calls, and those have been much less the last two years.

Looking at the numbers, it seems clear that the economy is a big driver for many of the crime categories ... no different than anywhere else.

Thanks for sharing your experience as a resident and landlord--the lawyer whose comments and opinion I referred to has over 30 years in defending criminals throughout Cuyahoga County and is in Lakewood Court a lot-- that's his experience of what is happening in Lakewood. He is very concerned by what he sees particularly with the narcotics related crime. I'm glad to hear that your experience in not his experience

I have only been a victim of crime here in Lakewood twice in 57 years--once this year and once not so long ago--both burglars--neither caught to my knowledge. Not sure if either of my cases are part of the statistics or even how those statistics are tallied. I lack enough personal experience or knowledge to form an opinion about trends. The statistics are comforting though, unless you're one of the victims.

Suspect has been seen in several backyards in Lakewood. If you see him, please call police.

I heard the guy is nuts. Do not approach.

Don't worry, it's a very safe link to Dr. Laura K. Kerr's website. She is a Stanford University educated writer, scholar, teacher and a former trauma-focused psychotherapist.

I spoke to a reporter at Channel 5 a couple of weeks ago. He informed me that the reason the media does not cover crimes in Lakewood is because the police and City Hall will NOT do press releases.

Whose idea is this? Lord Lakewood? Is this Lord's way of maintaining the "Lakewood Brand?"
