Came Up In Conversations Today...
I was out early this morning hitting various businesses in town, great Lakewood businesses and families, and many seemed unhappy, all afraid to speak openly for fallout.
Which brought the 1938 movie "The Terror of Tiny Town" into the discussion...
Funny how many fight for the second amendment , and ignore the attack on their first.
Lakewood where speaking up is seen as anti-American, and a bad thing. People ask me all day how we got here?
Cue the music...

What Fallout are you talking about? Shall we assume the Hospital debacle?

It is ironic that weak leaders like Bullock and Madigan have no "fear" of using their government status to accuse ordinary citizens of "bullying" and "mean spirited" conduct without factual basis for the accusations--i.e. the government plays the victim.
Simultaneously, scores of business people and ordinary citizens "fear" speaking out against the government for "fear" of retribution from the "bully" government.

Jim, I've actually seen "Terror of Tiny Town" and I'll say no more about that. What I will address is the notion that "great" Lakewood businesses and families are afraid to speak openly for fallout. If you don't speak out you're not great, you're gutless. A lot of people, whether during the Drug Mart process or now during the Hospital debacle, have stood up and spoke truth to power, without concern or an eye on the consequences. There is nothing that Summers and Siley count on more than weakness and the inevitable silence that follows. In Lakewood at this moment, silence is complicity.

It is all so odd.m buckley wrote:There is nothing that Summers and Siley count on more than weakness and the inevitable silence that follows. In Lakewood at this moment, silence is complicity.
Filing false police reports, lying about the sale of City assests, deceiving the public about our fake emergency room, the loss of 1,500 medical jobs are not enough to overcome the fear people have about speaking out.
What is everybody afraid of?
One ironic result of the bad Hospital deal is that City officials have to pretend that the loss of 350 jobs at the Lakewood Center building is no big deal.
After all, it the City encourages the loss of 1,500 medical jobs how can they complain about the loss of another 350 jobs?

Actually, no, they have to act like it is no big deal because he used those jobs in his campaign literature as proof of good leadership.Bill Call wrote:One ironic result of the bad Hospital deal is that City officials have to pretend that the loss of 350 jobs at the Lakewood Center building is no big deal.

Funny thing, I hear the decision was made before the election, and when did the mayor know it?

Lakewood is unique in many ways. Out in Westlake the City offered tax inducements and $90 million in State subsidies to attract 900 jobs from American Greetings.
Here in Lakewood we give away jobs and insist it is a brilliant move.

Well said. As the old Burke quote says, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."m buckley wrote:There is nothing that Summers and Siley count on more than weakness and the inevitable silence that follows. In Lakewood at this moment, silence is complicity.

Yep....Bullock is the worst offender on this. If you question any of his decisions, he immediately claims it's a "personal attack".
Meanwhile, City Hall hacks like Jen Pae have publicly attacked private individuals.
This is the most baffling aspect of all.Bill Call wrote:Here in Lakewood we give away jobs and insist it is a brilliant move.

Bill, Perhaps they fear a mandatory sentence/residence in that soon to be "luxury" soviet style apartment block, now known as Lakewood Center North.

I would say they are capable of just about anything at this point.m buckley wrote:Bill Call wrote:

10 years of lying, cheating, maneuvering to get the $$$$ and it is falling apart, again. There are interested people just waiting to see City Hall's next move in the money laundering scheme.
Read David Stein's letter to Council and the Mayor, "We must not let this fall apart like the West End did. We cannot allow the public to vote on this." It's hemorrhaging, look at the last council meeting.
Desperate people do desperate things. The mayor has hired stalkers, thugs, intimidator of woman over 65. Approving of their tactics, and still rewarding them for their bullshit. The law director started a paper to print lies to the city, and paid for it to be mailed to every home. Think about it. THE LAW DIRECTOR PAID TO PRINT LIES. AND SENDING IT TO EVERY HOUSE. In case you missed it, THE LAW DIRECTOR.
Makes you proud to live in Lakewood.
These monkeys are desperate, and it is showing, again.

David Stein has every right to say this, and the Mayor/Council has some obligation to read it. But acting on it is another thing.
It sounds too conspiratorial for my tastes, but there it is. Up to now, I have not thrown in with those who have tossed accusations of corruption around, but this statement has me rethinking that stance.

Stein was not the only member of the Summers Insiders' Club who did not want the people of Lakewood to decide their future.
LHA, Bullock, Madigan, CCF and Butler all colluded to concoct a contract structure in the hopes of nullifying the referendum that they all knew was sure to be mounted by SLH--and it was mounted. In fact, my source from deep inside the inner circle confirmed that the sole reason that they accelerated the hospital closure to February (instead of this September) was to posture for the best "legal" case to beat the referendum. The closure was not accelerated to save money---CCF was making money operating Lakewood Hospital.
Remember also that it was LHA's Rebecca Patton who said at the Lakewood Library that she thought people were "ignorant" and she did "not like the way they voted."
They closed the hospital to defeat the right to vote.
They used charitable money from LHA to defeat the right to vote--Summers admitted this in his changed answers in his deposition.
There is o need to speculate--these are proved facts--with many witnesses and documents.

Meanwhile council candidates were telling people Issue 61 was not needed because citizens could always do a referendum.Brian Essi wrote: Stein was not the only member of the Summers Insiders' Club who did not want the people of Lakewood to decide their future.
