Live In Lakewood Want To See Bald Eagles Up Close?

If this is the view you normally see of Bald Eagles in Lakewood, and would like to see them more like this...

Image
200 mm Lens, Nikon D700

You have to gather up the family on a weekend or after 4 on a weekday and drive to Avon Lake.

Redwood Elementary School, 32967 Redwood Blvd, Avon Lake, OH 44012

Image
While school is not in session you can drive up with the family park the car, and get out and see Eagles!

Image
They have one egg currently, working on a second or third?

Image
They trade off the nest about every hour, spending up to 20 minutes mating, and flying around the lot.

Image
Take binoculars, and the kids will love it.

Image
An apex predator, and one that could easily put a hurt on a human!

Image
Early morning and late evening they bring in fish, or food. And then in the spring babies, should be flying by late June.

Watch them 24/7/365 at:

Please be very respectful of neighbors and people at the site.
Also no eagle watching when school is in session.

Waiting at the light at Clifton and West Clifton yesterday and a bald eagle goes flying by. They are every where these days. Pretty awesome considering how few there were back in the 70's and 80's.

We have at least seven that have be born to the Bald Eagles in the canyon. They must be nesting somewhere. Likewise Avon Lake has produced 5 babies, they must be somewhere.

Right after Mayor Summers was appointed Mayor I tried to convince him to build a starter nest, down where the Bald Eagle sits in the afternoon. Just south of the new fishing shelf. I offered to pay for it, as it great seeing people line up to watch this majestic apex predators work the river. Unfortunately it is illegal to build starter nest for any raptor. And though the Bald Eagle has fallen off the protective species list it is a federal crime to attract, trap, or pick up any feathers from the birds that fall to the ground. Possession of a raptor feather is the equivalent of acquiring Ivory, unless you are a native American.

A couple years back, a friend heard a thud on his house went outside to see what it was and it was a huge fish, that had been dropped by an Eagle flying overhead.

Also have you noticed a complete lack of pigeons as compared to the past. Pigeons are a favorite food of Peregrines, Cooper Hawks, and Red Tails that are all over the city.

Yeah when I was a kid had you mentioned bald eagles and world class trout, salmon and walleye fishing, we would have laughed.
