One of the first big moves in regionalization, was to bring safety services online, together, this was further expedited and underwritten during the earliest days of the Patriot Act. While I am not a fan of regionalization, it has paid us dividends, with RITA, in so much as Lakewood does not need a mall to benefit from some of the financial benefits without having the nightmare of having one. WESTCOM radio, is also another benefit, If you are driving erratically on I-90, you have ZERO chance making it through the westside without being stopped. And when fire and safety calls go out, everyone gets ready to jump in. As Rocky River covered for our ambulances the first half hour of the new year, Lakewood Fire backed up Rocky River on some calls this weekend.
From the Rockport Observer...

At 3:15am Saturday Morning they were called to this fire at 1030 Brook Lane.

By morning light, there was almost nothing left. The good news, no injuries.

Better news, fire did not spread to any of the other close housing to the fire. Good work Lakewood and Rocky River Fire.

Sunday morning they were called to a fire in a home at 3344 Wooster Road.

The fire was contained to one room, and was quickly extinguished.
One of the nice aspect of the agreement is that more fire trucks were there IF NEEDED. Rocky River like Lakewood is filled with old homes and old wiring.

While it is great for safety aspects and budgeting, it is hard on the fire department, as they try to do more with less.

Luckily they were not need at this truck fire which shut down Lake Road for about an hour around Midnight on Sunday Morning.

Good work Lakewood and Rocky River Fire and Police.
