Girls Hoops: Lakewood 39, Rocky River 33

Post by Michael Deneen »

The Rangers crossed the bridge tonight to take on the Pirates in a second round OHSAA tournament game. Lakewood won 39-33 behind great team defense and 17 points from sophomore center Olivia Nagy. Senior Mallory Shaw had 10 points to go along with multiple steals. Junior Ryann Greenfield was limited to only 5 points, but had multiple steals and made key free throws down the stretch.

I'll post photos as soon as possible, and I'll have an extended writeup in the next print edition of the Observer.

Ranger fans came out in big numbers for this game. The Ranger crowd outnumbered Rocky River fans in River's own gym.

Sophomore center Olivia Nagy led the Rangers with 17 points.

Nagy was also a big factor under the boards, getting rebounds and blocking shots.

Senior Mallory Shaw had 10 points, and make critical shots in the second half. She also played great perimeter defense, frustrating the Pirates all night.

Ryann Greenfield also had a solid night, making clutch free throws in the fourth quarter and playing great defense.

Head Coach Mike Harper was able to dial up the right calls in the upset victory.

The Ranger boys hoops team came out to support their female counterparts.

Ranger baseball/football coach Mike Ribar, father of Ranger players Emma and Courtney Ribar, looks on.
Two daughters on the team = twice the nerves.

If it's an LHS event, that means Chuck Greanoff is there.

Mrs. Flannery, grandmother of Olivia Nagy. She's also the mother of St. Ed coach Eric Flannery, and grandmother of Eagle basketball players Sean and PJ Flannery. She watches a LOT of high school basketball.

Here are Coach Ribar's parents, in the house to see their granddaughters.
