The Lakewood Family Health Center Will Be Just Like What They Have In Twinsburg

Over the last 12 months I have heard that from supporters of the Mayors plan to move Lakewood Hospital to Avon.

What is the truth? Our new medical office building will not be a family health center, it will not offer a full range of services and it will be nothing like Clinic facilities in Avon, Twinsburg, Strongsville, Mentor or even Brunswick.

The obvious question is: If what is being built is so great why do they have to lie about what is being built?

Not sure we would even want what they have in Twinsburg. A clinic doctor told me that the Twinsburg ER transfers patients because they cannot handle more serious cases and many patients were at risk because of delays in treatment. Going to the ER there wasted critical time - they should have gone to an an ER with an attached hospital. In his opinion, these delays may cost lives.

This problem will plague Lakewood, as well, and they all know it.

What Lakewood is getting is the CCF Family Medicine Residency Training Program. Several years ago I was a patient there. You will see doctors in training and in most cases you will not see the same doctor all the time. It is just like socialized medicine. After their training is complete they leave to start their own practices. Most will not be practicing near Lakewood. I know this from past experience. They can handle low risk OB care, but that is about it. Everything else, you will be referred elsewhere. The reason I left there was because they kept screwing up my family's medications, not calling them in, or calling in the wrong RX. And by the way, if you get stuck with the wrong medication, you will end up paying for both of them and then be told,"sorry". The billing is a mess. Procedures were coded wrong, co-pays were not posted to the account, etc. About three years ago, I thought my mom was having a stroke. When I called to talk with resident, I was told he was not available because he was in a meeting. I threatened them with a law suit, and 45 minutes later I got a call back. Thank god after her hospital ordeal, she was OK. I have type 1 diabetes and was put on birth control pills by a resident there. I wound up in the hospital because of high blood sugar, which can put you in a coma, and can be a side effect of diabetics using birth control pills. I got smart, and got my family the hell out of there. You are sort of like a lab rat when you are a patient there. Sure sounds like the mayor and council thought long and hard about what is best for us tax payers huh?

My family now is with Westshore Primary Care. They are in Rocky River by Mitchell's Ice cream and you can get there by bus. They have specialists like endocrinology, cardiology, nephrology, etc., located out on Detroit Road in Westlake which is also available on the bus line. They are like doctor's offices used to be. Smaller, quaint, they know your name, and you get to talk to a human, unlike the clinic where you have to go through a computer system for 15 minutes.
