Northeast Ohio Media Group -- the outfit that runs cleveland.com for the PD is changing its name to "Advance Ohio".
They say their new strategy is "to serve all of Ohio".
My interpretation: get ready for even less Lakewood coverage.
The PD has been steadily withdrawing from Lakewood for many years, this might be the final step out the door.
Now more than ever, we need the Observer.
Noone else is going to cover Lakewood's City Hall, local groups, schools, sports, and more. Noone else will offer Lakewood residents a place to voice and share their views.

Oh, but what about Ohio Neighborhood News, the paper that Ed Fitzgerald "invested" in? Has that venture failed?

I'm not sure that the name is anything more than window dressing. Actually it's a better sounding name and means more since it is derived from the parent company. It will probably help with ad sales, and maybe with the inevitable sale.
The downsized publication is about saving money on printing, and firing reporters just speeds the death spiral.
On another front, our PD carrier has informed us that she is no longer able to do the job as her earnings have been cut to "pennies." I still read it, but when I retrieved it from a long way out on my lawn this morning, I thought again that the time is coming when we'll have to cut it out.
