This is not a thread about the hospital...

Post by Corey Rossen »

...but I'm sure it will become one.

What is the direction of the new Advisory Board?

Where will they take the Project?

What can they add to the community?

What can they remove from the community?

How will they help steer the Project?

Will the community respond to the new direction?

Hallelujah! :D

Finally! :D

A thread NOT relating to that building that we're not going to talk about.

I've seen threads where we were supposed to support...

I've seen threads where we were supposed to oppose...

As far as a new advisory board goes for the "Deck"? :?:

I can tell you one thing for certain...

I'm not on it.

Too many musical and educational projects going on with me right now. :D

Plus, I'm just trying to stay healthy...because...

What about you Corey? You post here a lot. You obviously care a lot about Lakewood. :D

Why don't YOU get on the board? :D

Maybe Mr. Essi too? :D

Maybe Mr. Kenny too? :D

Others? :D

Balanced guidance... :D

Can that banjo campfire be far away? :D

Back to the banjo... :D

Post this as often as you want, they will publish whatever they want. 4 of them post regularly here, and can say it themselves.

Maybe in 2016 we stop telling others what to say and post, and we all worry about we post ourselves.

To many people worried about what others say and do.

I bet you agree with that.

I guess one of the questions should have been, "what are the expectations for the Advisory Board by the people who appointed them to the Board?"

In my understanding the Advisory Board has already been appointed and acting on behalf for some time now.

Corey

I can answer that question.
There are no expectations.
Every person on the board has commented on the Board or to others they think it could be done better, and less nasty.
I asked each one, would you be willing to sit down and talk with others, they agreed.
All want to see the project continue and evolve.
However there are real limitations, and they are learning them.

It is easy to just say, "we need moderation"
Example, if it is hard to schedule advisory board meetings? Then how do we moderate a Deck 24 hours a day? All of them have families, and other jobs, all are volunteering their time. For all I know there could be no changes or drastic changes. I have no idea and no expectations.

I am staying out of meetings, once they become regular, and letting them come up with whatever they do. I have found someone familiar with the Deck and other forums to give them advice so it is not me telling them anything.

Blank Slate.

Thanks.

I think that is both good and bad.

I think it is good to have a blank slate, but bad not to have expectations.

It is good that they are familiar with the past Deck, but bad that they are not given direction or expectations from the leader of the company/Project.

If the Deck is not able to be moderated now, how was it moderated before? That info could help the new Board.

It is telling that you had to ask them if they are willing to speak with one another, that is bad that you had to even pose the question.

I hope it works out for the best.

As you know full well, things don't always go according to plans.

People think some have some form of control over this? There is none. People came in from BL and other places thinking they would be shut down and deleted, nope.

The secret here is "sustainable" and that gets into where you put the resources you have.

I really do not want to give the new board any input, and let them work through this on their own.

But the real question, and the one we ran into every time we do this I think it is the third time. Who is in charge of moderating, and who does it 24 hours a day.

OR

We make people use real names, and be accountable for what we say, while letting it define who we are and represent.

At the end of the day, we do want people to listen to what we are saying, and the BS does no one any good, except to define who we are.

But that has to be offset with what I will call the "Sharon Kinsella LIE" "If Sharon Kinsella stopped posting I would come on..." Well Sharon though feisty, and a times a real B**** used her real name and backed up what she said. Sharon due to health and other reasons has stopped posting, not one person that ever used her as an excuse has ever signed on to post. So Corey you are a perfect person to ask this to. Do we care more about chasing maybes, retaining users, or just being here for people?

This city, many people on the Deck and elsewhere should worry more about what they say or don't say instead of what others are saying.

If you do not like it, ignore it.

“Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference." ― Mark Twain
Great advice for all of us to think about...'

“Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.― George Carlin

LET's PICK ON BRIAN ESSI, he can take it.

If I hear one more time, "Well Brian had his facts right, but the way he says it..." I am going to bust a blood vessel. Really we are going to ignore facts because of personality? Gravitate towards lies, because they are served with sweets? Really.

But, I think one thing we can all agree on, we can all try to do it better in 2016.

I think it is important to chase the maybes. From a sales/marketing/users perspective, they are potential customers (sales figures aside because they do not exist on the Deck, they are potential viewers/posters/contributors). If you lose customers (users) and do not gain new ones you eventually go out of business (lose readership). Marketability is huge, like it or not.

I also think it is key to retain current users, for the same above reasoning.

Also, I think a good product does more than "just be here for people." It is up to the makers of the product to ensure that.

To answer your other question -

Yes, personality matters. Marketability, of yourself or a product, matters. Everything matters. It is most crucial when having an important message to get across, if you've lost marketability then you've also lost credibility.

You are right.

But our advertisers buy into the project and the premise which is, "An open equal table, with an equally open newspaper." They advertise to help underwrite this. If that wasn't good for them they would advertise elsewhere. Lot's of places do news better, but no one in the county has a better reputation for equality and fairness.

There are so many things happening with Observer projects now I am gladly going sit back to see what shakes out and others come up with.
Then we will decide to do them or not, stay or go.
But let's see what they come up with.

"You do it better than anyone else, that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to be better." Vince Frantz
