PLEASE EXCUSE OUR DUST!

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

We are looking at many new options in 2016. Everything and anything is on the table. A group of Lakewoodites familiar to many on the Deck will be looking at various ways the Lakewood Observer Deck could be better. When the board is announced I think all will be happy with the diversity, and we all should look forward to their ideas. Some of their suggestions have already been tried, with mixed success.

We are also rearranging the Deck, a process started years ago, but suspended, now that we have all of the posts restored and together, we are going to start to archive them into various filings making them easier to find, read and use. Part of the process will be combining multiple threads on the same topic when they make sense. The newest version of the Deck allows this while keeping all aspects of the story intact including headers and links.

If you get a chance, take a look around and check out the buttons and features. Most of the things people have requested over the past couple years are there.

What has already been tried (with mixed success)?

Corey some of the new group have asked for a couple things that were easy to try. We did, some seem to work, others did not.
Look we added emoticons, no one cares, that would be a great example of mixed success.
There have been many changes to the Deck in the past couple months, and more in the coming weeks.

They are meeting when they can, they are volunteers, all have a strong history of community involvement.
This post was more about pruning the various topics and changing the headings. Finishing work that started years ago.
An example would be Lori's post on the stabbing, my post on the evening, being combined.

There are a series of community meetings being planned to discuss how we can all do it better, as we get ready to rework
the entire project. With a young, new mother at the helm, I predict we see many changes coming to the Observer.

Is this in response to your new competition, the "Ohio Neighborhood News?"

I guess Fitzgerald didnt pursue that "investment" since they haven't published since October. Surprised Pasquale Manno hasn't questioned why there hasn't been another paper out since.

No, this is more a response from some of the suggestions over the years, the new younger crew of 20 somethings getting their act together, and what happens when people grow, mature have children and realize there is more to living in a community. I think the changes I have heard mention will be good. All of these people did wonderful work with the groups they represented, all represent groups we have worked with in the past and look forward to working with in the future.

PM - I have spoken to two Pasquale Mannos from Lakewood, one no longer living here and neither were the poster. So we wait for the third?

In Lakewood and in all cities we have a paper, people learn very quickly it is far easier to get the Observer to print the story, and far cheaper than doing it themselves.

Only the very myopic think a propaganda piece is ever seen as anything but, BS.
