Did Kaptur Refuse to Answer Questions About Hospital/Summers?
This evening a little after seven, I received a conference call from Marcy Kaptur. I assume she may have gotten the idea for this type of call from her political comrade Summers. I spoke with the person that was taking the questions for Kaptur and asked about the Lakewood Hospital situation and told her how I felt that the deal with CCF violated Federal Trade Commission laws, and then asked why she had endorsed Summers. As I sat and listened to her speech for Forty minutes and heard the same gentleman call more than once with different questions, the moderator came on the line and said that they were out of time. I can only presume that she did not want the information about Summers getting out, and especially about all of the jobs we will lose and the economic impact the hospital closure will have on the city.
Please note that I was one of the first people to dial in when questions opened up. Other people asked questions about healthcare and several people spoke from Lakewood. I'm having a hard time understanding how my question was skipped.
When I called Kaptur several months ago for help with the hospital issue, her office said that she did not get involved in local issues. If this is the case, why did she endorse a local mayor?

Hopefully, there will be some one decent running against Kaptur. She doesn't care about our hospital and 1,500 jobs, but it appears that she sure loves Summers. That is a real wake up call!

Marcy Kaptur is bulletproof. This state has been gerrymandered by the GOP (yes, this IS political!) to make each district as "red" or "blue" as possible.Lori Allen _ wrote:Hopefully, there will be some one decent running against Kaptur. No Republican has any chance of winning.
Likewise, no Cuyahoga Democrat has any hope of beating Kaptur in the Toledo-skewing primary.
The GOP wanted to get rid of Kucinich, and they did a fine job of it.
Anyone who runs against Kaptur is a protest candidate headed to slaughter, a la Jay Carson running against Nickie at the State level.

She still is a real piece of work and I know several people who won't be voting for her.

I don't blame Marcy for staying out of the Lakewood Hospital debate. She shouldn't be involved in favoring one hospital over another, especially when the competing hospitals are also in her district. That's our issue primarily, not hers.
And given the geography and characteristics of her district (gerrymandered as it is), her most important issue should be making sure that the Asian carp don't get into Lake Erie, and seeing to an effort to reduce the phosphorus and other pollutants getting into the lake's Western Basin. Her district obviously depends on Lake Erie tourism more than any other district, probably by two orders of magnitude. Lake Erie is a big part of the economy in her (our) district.

That said, I sure wish we had a better choice. More than that, I wish we could get Dennis back.

Dan,
I couldn't agree with you more. Dennis was, and still is a class act. His office helped my family several times when my son was little. He is truly a person who cares about people. ( unlike the clowns we have in the city administration now! ) I would vote for him in a heart beat!
