On Wednesday Morning...

Post by Gary Rice »

On Wednesday morning, we will have learned many things about the direction that we will be taking...

...as a community...
...as a state...
...as a free people...

As far as our own community goes, I have good, decent, wonderful friends on both sides of the hospital issue and the mayoral race. All sides will be exhausted, and- in their own collective opinions, all sides will have fought the good fight for what they believe to be best for Lakewood, and for Ohio.

I've already voted, by mail, and quite frankly, some of my own choices surprised me; but they are my private choices and no one else's. Merely by voting, I became part of that "elite" group that makes "secret" decisions that affect the rest of us. Sadly and historically, a relatively small percentage of the electorate seems to even bother to vote these days, and therefore, that relatively small percentage has indeed changed history in past elections.

However you might feel about the opinions, arguments, and positions that I and others may have taken, either publicly or privately, during this election season about candidates or issues, please take the time to vote. Your vote on Tuesday will be the opinion that counts.

...And please, on Wednesday morning, try in your heart of hearts, whether your issue or candidate prevailed or did not, do try to remember that caring people of all sides REALLY tried to make a difference here...for Ohio, for Lakewood, for all of us. Let's then do all in our power to heal the wounds, and to bring our community back together again. :D

We owe that much to each other. :D

People have expressed very strong opinions in the past weeks, but on Tuesday, the opinions that REALLY count will ONLY be the ones expressed by the voters. :D

Please join those of us who have voted, or will vote. :D

Make a difference. Become a part of the "secret decision makers" who REALLY run this town...the voters.

Please vote. :D

if certain people and organisations can put out and print fake papers, what makes you think the election has any merit and is not fixed?

What makes you think any election for that matter already is not predetermined? and the process of what you call voting is nothing more then to control the sheep ?

back in the 1800s you would go to the town hall, raise your hand in a group of a few hundred and say Yes or No.... not be in secret, with ballots and everybody would know what side your on....majority rules ...

I was having thoughts like this during the last election, when there wasn't as much at stake as this time, but I was very interested in some school board races, and the precincts came in in such a peculiar way that with FitzGerald in charge of the entire county, including the County Board of Elections, it was easy to imagine "the fix being in."

One positive thing is that FitzGerald isn't there anymore, though it has been quite unpleasant to see him rear his head in our election here in Lakewood.

With so much bad behavior from our elected officials, it's not hard to imagine that if they could fix the election, they would. The positive thing about that is that this election is being watched by many people, many officials on many levels outside of Lakewood. County, State and Federal.

If it seemed that something dishonest was going on, this election is one that would get investigated. This is the one, that if there is malfeasance at a county level, would be the one that sorts that out. Everyone is watching.

And as for here at home, we're all watching too, and participating! Look at the amazing citizen-leaders that have stepped up this time around. They're not going anywhere. They're not going away after the election no matter the results.

Lakewood is AWAKE! and ready.

Have a good thought, and keep your head up. Now's the time.

On this beautiful Monday morning, I thought that I'd post this great photo taken of me by Dr. Thomas Leatherman DDS, a great friend, awesome dentist, and way cool musician with the band "Fireside".

Dr. Tom took this picture on Friday evening at the Soltice Steps grand opening.

There were so many Lakewoodites together there, from virtually every background imaginable, political or otherwise, meeting to experience the best sunset I've ever seen, with eclectic instrumental and choral groups providing a wonderful aural setting for that sublime visual experience.

Lakewood is indeed coming together already, even during our dissensions. Congratulations to all who put those steps together.

Gives me a good feeling about Wednesday morning... :D

One Wednesday morning if Skindell is the Mayor elect be prepared for an all out assault on Lakewood.

There was more to the Hospital deal than closing the Hospital and moving 1,500 jobs to Lorain County. There are other agendas at work including the desire of Cuyahoga County power brokers to weaken cities like Lakewood. Their goal is a regional hegemony dedicated to downtown development and urban sprawl that leaves cities like Lakewood weak, impoverished and controlled.

On Wednesday morning the fight will just begin. The Clinic has a lot to lose. The regionalists have a lot to lose. Downtown power brokers have a lot to lose.

Wednesday morning is not the time for some kumbaya moment; it's the time for doubling down.

Bill,

Perhaps it may well be both a time for sing-a-longs, AND a time for doubling down.

Don't forget that optimistic sing-a-long leaders are very often, serious and passionate activists in their own right.

More than ever, perhaps for your reasons, or for others, Lakewood will indeed need to come together on Wednesday morning. :D

So on Wednesday, let's SING!

Lakewood, Ohio, Is Our Home by Robert and Gary Rice

Golden diamonds on the lake, caught by the morning sun.
Cliffside caves and river trails where freedom's hopes were won.
Kirtland's Warblers, Templar cars, on old plank roads we roamed.
Lakewood, Ohio, is our home!

Emerald canyons seen through pale reflections from the moon,
A hundred ways to worship God, and sing our favorite tunes,
See the eagles soaring over Erie's stormy foam.
Lakewood, Ohio, is our home!

Refrain:
Come with us to our...hometown!
This is Lakewood, Ohio, won't you come right down?
Come with us, sing a song of cheer,
As we celebrate another hundred years!

Have you begun plans as to where the Lakewood Observer Project's post-election party will be?

Lori

It will not matter by then anyway.

PS - What Gary Rice has right about all of this is the day after is "Wednesday" but no matter the outcome it will be the start of Part 2. No side wins on Tuesday, this deal is too messed up, too crazy. There is still the lawsuit that has nothing to do with the future of the hospital, it is based on how the hospital WAS run by LHA, and that the Mayor was negligent in his fiduciary duties. Which has become kind of a slam dunk, considering how the Mayor and LHA are on record about running it into the ground.

There will be recounts, and I predict some changes on council.

You sill have others looking at the legalities, and some things cannot even start until the Mayor accepts the deal. Example, there is no monopoly, until the Mayor agrees to help keep out other providers in writing. That would be an anti-trust violation. But until it happens, it is vapor.

Potential recounts, though the only race I see possibly close is if Judge Patrick Carroll were to run against Save Lakewood Hospital. Of course SLH is not on the ballot, what is on the ballot is Issue 64, which has seen a ton of mailings, most of them outright lies. And Mike Skindell, who is offering to try to save the hospital, but also bring honesty, accountability to city hall.

No matter how you feel about the Hospital you have to be completely dumbfounded over the lack of honesty, and accountability by this administration. From lying about it on day 2, to creating a fake paper to lie about it right before the election.

LAKEWOOD NEEDS A GOVERNMENT WE CAN BELIEVE

Yep, since I announced it was closing.

They keep calling me a liar, and unfair, and biased, no matter how many of their articles the LO prints, that they wrote.

No way even trying to understand what I am actually saying.

I can wait till Wednesday morning, because once again I will give my take on all of it. 2nd time ever.

I think you will finally understand just how foolish, and conniving Summers and Build Lakewood were.

No reason to bring it into the election, Lakewood is too smart to be treated like Rubes anyway.

The group that thinks 97% of Lakewood is stupid, is about to get some clarification.

The party is at my house...and everyone gets a dog!!!! LOL.
I agree with Gary on this one. Wednesday morning we need to heal. We need to be neighbors again. We need to stop the fighting. Each side truly ran for what they believed in. And no matter your feelings, you have to give them credit for that. I was always told and taught to stand up for what I believe in.
While my votes are private, between me and my own personal demons in my head, I will go to sleep Tuesday night soundly knowing I voted for what I believed in.
However I will be honest and admit that realtor.com has been my new best friend/website since everything started. Who knows...there might be a for sale sign in front of the house....
