BuildLakewood's House Of Cards Falling
You can hear the infighting see them deserting ship in droves. Good people were sold a false bill of goods. Stick with us, we will let you dream big, no bigger, even bigger. First many members realized they were talking about privatizing our money. Still they dreamed bigger. Then they were herded into a room and told to dream big on these three ideas, and they continued to dream big, no bigger. Then they were told SLH people were bad, and bullies, yet they knew in their hearts it was not true. And over the last three weeks they have watched as the Mayor, EX-Mayor FitzGerald, and Jay Foran have treated and mislead. They have started to ask themselves, why am I here, they tell me nothing.
Lakewood, you are being played.
Imagine a Lakewood, where people could speak their minds, without intimidation. Imagine a Lakewood where kids couple play with each other because they wanted to, not because of the political sign in their front yard. Imagine a Lakewood where people are honest, transparent, respect each other, the city, and the land. Working together to make it a better place for EVERYONE.
Well it is not called Build Lakewood, it is called the Observer Project. Stand up be accountable and help lead this city into the future.
Lie, hide, mislead, use and abuse, arrivederci we have a bright new Lakewood ahead of us, after all...
""When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny." Thomas Jefferson.
Just say no to intimidation, peer pressure and adults that act like children.

Funny, no answer, even the trolls have found out, the Emperor has no clothes.
One of the easiest way to catch a troll is to tell them to "Dream Big!"
One of the easiest ways to set them free is real honest conversation.

This troll is having a hard time differentiating between the Lakewood Observer Project brands. The Lakewood Observer in print abides by one set of standards while the Lakewood Observer Observation Deck has a different set of standards.Jim O'Bryan wrote:

Both do not function without intimidation. (above)
Both are not respectful of other people. (above)
Both do not have mature adults. (above)
Both are community driven.
Both reference Lakewood.
Both are not journalism.
Both are great concepts in building community.
Both take a great deal of time, patience and upkeep.
Both allow for free speech.
Both have positive places in society.
Both cannot be put in print and distributed throughout the community.
But, because as mentioned above, both are community driven they do not always bring the best things about the community to light. The products are different, so it is hard to identify as just one Lakewood Observer project brand.
This is not a jab at one or the other, they both serve their purpose, and serve them well. They just appear to have different standards of output. One Lakewood Observer Project, 2 Lakewood Observer products - I do not think it is beneficial to one or the other to lump them together.

The intimidation on this message board predates Build Lakewood. The very mission of the Observer allows anyone to intimidate anyone - just use your real name.

Now they have set out to destroy the Observer. They say the truth will set you free. I suspect in this case the truth will send someone to jail
The Mayor and his friends conspired to destroy a Hospital and use the remnants for their private gain.Vince Frantz wrote:The intimidation on this message board predates Build Lakewood. The very mission of the Observer allows anyone to intimidate anyone - just use your real name.

Intimidate
1. to make timid; fill with fear.
2. to overawe or cow, as through the force of personality or by superior display of wealth, talent, etc.
3. to force into or deter from some action by inducing fear:
to intimidate a voter into staying away from the polls.
Intimidation (also called cowing) is intentional behavior that "would cause a person of ordinary sensibilities" fear of injury or harm. It is not necessary to prove that the behavior was so violent as to cause terror or that the victim was actually frightened.[1]
Threat, Criminal threatening (or threatening behavior) is the crime of intentionally or knowingly putting another person in fear of bodily injury. "Threat of harm generally involves a perception of injury...physical or mental damage...act or instance of injury, or a material and detriment or loss to a person."[2] "A terroristic threat is a crime generally involving a threat to commit violence communicated with the intent to terrorize other."[3]
Jim, Corey, and Vince,
I think it best that we start with the definitions of the verb and noun being thrown around.
Can you cut and paste any examples from the LO or the Deck that you think meet these definitions?
It seems that you are suggesting printed materials meet these definitions.

Always so negative.
The mission of the Lakewood Observer and all Observer projects is to respect those willing to stand up and share thoughts under their real names.
Over the course of days, weeks, months you develop a better understanding of that person.
How is intimidation served through a keyboard? Is that different from someone telling their friends their daughter can no longer ride with them as they have a Save Lakewood Hospital sign in their yard?
Civic discourse, is not intimidating, and if it is sit back and read.

The people who call the Deck "intimidating" must not visit any other websites.
The "anonymous name" website in town is like a biker bar.
Cleveland.com is a sewer of racism and homophobia.
Compared to those, the Deck is a picnic.

Mike Deneen - The other sites aren't claiming to be anything like what Jim is claiming the Observer is. In fact - they are designed to drive conflict to drive revenue. I didn't think the Observer was running that business model.
So this is how it plays out for the Observer brand...
When you post a question that seems like you are in support of X or Y, the Observer will kick you right in the gut to make sure you are put in your place.
If you ask a simple question - the Observer will ignore that question and let you know how stupid you are for asking it.
If you share a thought or opinion - the Observer will let the audience know that you are a shill for another person and have no brain of your own.
After seeing this happen time after time - the very real people the Observer is trying to give a voice to are too intimidated to share their thoughts here.
So how does this help the community again?
PS. Obligatory Labyrinth reference attached since I went as Jareth this year for halloween.
The Observer project is a critical part of the success of this community. When some items are posted here, Jim claims "the Observer did it", "the Observer broke the story", "the Observer has all the facts". But isn't this all about the individuals we are supposed to read along with and get to know "virtually"? If you are going to claim credit for the positive, enlightening contributions of individuals, you also deserve the to take responsibility for the worst of the Deck as well.Imagine a Lakewood, where people could speak their minds, without intimidation. Imagine a Lakewood where kids couple play with each other because they wanted to, not because of the political sign in their front yard. Re: BuildLakewood's House Of Cards Falling
Vince,
How about last week when I posted police reports about the rapes that Summers has been hiding from our community? Not one regular Observer Deck member came on line , in fact, Summers released the trolls from under the bridge to defame my character on line. I'm a big girl and I can take it. Apparently the trolls have more concern for Summers image than they do the facts that show what he did.Who was being mean? Who refused to LOOK at the posted facts? The fact that these trolls had more empathy and concern from Summers was very upsetting. They had NO concern what so ever for the victims, one being a two year old boy. Very sad isn't it?
