Since I never got any information that wasn't in book form from LakewoodAlive re-funding specifics, I looked at their 990's on Guidestar. I can't copy them because of the USER AGREEMENT on there, but the forms ay at the top say that they are subject to public disclosure. It doesn't say that they are subject to public disclosure after jumping through hoops and playing games. The 990's are in order, but of course, they don't include donors and specific amounts from all grants.

I then went back to the Annual Reports on the LakewoodAlive site. Since I'm not a computer tech, I couldn't figure out how to print them so that the typeface came out in a readable fashion on the fabulous pie charts, which are nice if you want percentages. Since I want specifics I have sent an email to CBDG grants administrator in the administration asking for the amounts of the non-profit grants. The LakewoodAlive group is listed with such fine groups and NorthCoast Center and Lakewood Christian Service Center etc. Be interesting to find out what amounts were used for each.

I know that the CDBG's were given in good faith, in hopes that the mission would be the work.

I would like to note that I feel that no response has been a response in and of itself and that the insults were flung in a way to stifle conversation.

For what it is worth.

First Federal is a solid support of the Lakewood Observer and is one of the few banks to stay out of all the subprime BS that has affected so many other banks in the area.

This is one reason I was outraged over the shabby treatments Lakewoodites were given when asked for numbers that most should be happy to share. FFL, The clinic, Lakewood Hospital etc. Maybe LA does not realize that when they get funds and display their names so proudly they should be more consumer friendly.

I was involved in motor racing for years which is sponsorship driven. One thing everyone always was aware was that our actions always reflected on the sponsors, and that we had better keep everything clean and open.

I think what you mean is "The Magnificent 8/10ths of a Mile" of Lakewood. The "Magnificent Mile" of Chicago may be 2/10ths of a mile longer, but Lakewood's is no less magnificent.

I knew we had a real hook for DowntowN Lakewood when we measured the distance from Arthur to Bunts. I think this one has a chance to work even better than the "New York may be the Big Apple, but Cleveland's a Plum" campaign. I really miss that purple stripe on Euclid Avenue.

Really, Chicago, not that impressive. If they had embraced the "less is more" philosophy, and just included the good stuff, maybe cut out 2/10ths, they might have had something.

I wanted to share this video with everyone. This lady is a graphic designer that works for major companies and organizations. This talk was given on TED, which is one of the best educational talk organizations in my opinion.

She talks about when design is play, and when design is serious. When design is play, it is great, when it becomes serious, that's when you have to re-invent it and make it play again.

She talks about how she had to design a logo for a neighborhood, and said that it was "creepy, because a neighborhood doesn't have a logo, it has a thing, a landmark, a place." This is at about 2/3 of the way through the video.

View then the LA Blimp and the LO Boat in the cartoon prophecy of Jimmyville as extensions of the mythological imaginations of each organization.

Thus the LA Blimp flies in the air, the domain of the sky god Jupiter, called dies pater, "shining father.â€￾ In the sanctuary of Jupiter wars were declared and treaties were made.

The LO boat floats on the waters of Jupiter’s brother, Neptune, the cause, according to a certain Hippocratic text, of mental disturbances.

I believe you read Ken's post wrong, and must look deeper into the meaning, and the symbolism.

While the blimp rides on a stream of hot air, and lighter than air claims, the cargo ship, which was supposed to be the boat from the library still steams ahead. Even using, Ken's names, The Titanic was survived by many, many, people. It was only those confused that refused to see, far better to get into the lifeboat, then play on as the boat is sinking. The Hindenberg was not so lucky, All perished even harming those standing near the crash.

Look deeper into the meaning of "The LO boat floats on the waters of Jupiter’s brother, Neptune, the cause, according to a certain Hippocratic text, of mental disturbances. " I would suggest that the BOAT FLOATS, while it is the others that are having problems with their "mental disturbances." Which must certainly be applied to the fact that while some, Ken Warren, The Mayor, Nate Kelly, Ed Favre, Matt Markling and others have ZERO problem coming to the deck, posting cohesive, solid, well reasoned, and balanced messages, even answering extremely tough questions of people who are desperate to shoot them down. The "gifted few" can barely throw out one sentence before resorting to personal attacks, and name calling, while showing zero respect to those that they seek funding from. As one person said, their meltdown was insane. This to me is the "mental disturbance" Ken speaks of. Certainly no one from the Deck attacked Lakewoodalive the blimp that floats only because hot air and empty visions, as opposed to the LO boat that floats on the "think tank" of the collective consciences of Lakewoodites.

You must take a step back from the Deck and look and read into the much larger picture. Four groups that cannot stand the spotlight of ANY scrutiny, now all claiming their own need to start and "do right for the good of the community." When the truth is, if they were indeed doing any of this for "the good of the community," they would stand in the spotlight, at the one place where there is one voice, one seat, and no judge in the room. The Lakewood Observer that demands, put up, and we shall always trust you to decide FOR YOURSELF, what fits for you. We did not start to collect names, for sale, or abuse. We do not collect emails for sale or abuse, we do not control information for profit of gain. In the end, the LO is the community project, that has never tried to define, control, spin, only help, project and amplify.

This is why Ken's posts were so right on, but heady to layout and decipher.

The Lakewood Public Library, and its father Kenneth Warren, has always believed and practised government and libraries from the days of the Greeks and before. AN OPEN PLACE TO DISCUSS FREELY AND LEARN everything a person needs for life. Anything less than that is a scam or scheme that must run from both the light of day and the spotlight of open mike night.

Gary, on another note, about the ship dead in the water. I have been working on new alliances with some art groups, that will be bringing art, music, comedy and adventure to Lakewood, and the LO. Jim who has started many comedy groups and worked with HBO and Cinemax will be popping up shortly as we continue to grow into new arenas, and venues.

So play Kumbaya, but i would suggest, "World Keeps A Turning" by Pops Staples, because we are about to move full steam ahead.
