New Businesses

Post by Justine Cooper »

It looks like a new business where Mastik (?) the furniture/carpet place was (or are they still there?) on Madison near Brown. Does anyone know? Also heard there was a sign for the Gathering opening up-does anyone know what or when?

It is nice to continue to see new businesses opening up. I would love to see a section in the hard copy and here the lists new businesses and what they are about!

It is not a new business by WestSide skates moving to a much larger location as they outgrew their last shop.

Great news for Lakewood!

Yeay! I have heard about people coming in from the Sandusky and other areas to get specialized bikes from the bike shop on Madison too so it is nice to see growing and thriving businesses which bring in people from other areas and to other businesses they wouldn't have known about!

Oh yea they must be having a party! Bet their old building will be hard to rent! Calini should have to pay the rent on that.

On a more positive note, the more cohesive the businesses are on each main street in Lakewood, with literature listing businesses and maps, etc. the more out of town people will stop at more businesses when they come to one. I hope more gets done in that area. It would be nice to see Lakewood coupon books and things like that.

Hi,
Thanks, Ms. Cooper for the good news.

Question: Do you work for an organization whose job/mission is to promote Lakewood development?

Cannot speak of the coupon book, although there is something similar I have seen, but cannot comment on.

As for the literature, it is being worked on and the PRIVATE funding has been found to pay for the printing. MAMA is working on it.

Don

Justine started and headed MAMA. She is an incredible advocate for Lakewood and Lakewood businesses having owned one of my favorite stores in Lakewood.

Now she just calls and yells at me to get off my fat ass and what to do!

Seems to be a common thread with many in this town.

FWIW

haha one of your favorite stores Jim? Hm I can't remember you buying much jewelry!! Actually I didn't even know Mama was working on a coupon book since I am out of that loop! I am glad as the idea has been thrown around for awhile and it makes sense! I use my Entertainment book a lot and try new places from it so I think those work.

Thank you Mr. Farris but I do come up with ideas and shout them out to Jim hoping someone else will do them since I can't find the time right now! I would love to see the Russian church with Baba's kitchen providing perogies and pastries to some of the local eateries and Tommy's providing more to local eateries, all win-win! See Jim there is another idea for you to do something with haha The ideas are plentiful but the time is not. One problem with Mama is getting a meeting time for everyone which is really hard!

Please reread my note from before "Working with..."

re: coupon books

I brought a sample of one back from my trip back home to Buffalo over the holidays. The book, entitled "Where Buffalo Roams & Shops" contained coupons for only local shops, and was billed as "2009 all local coupon book and guide to being local"; it sold for $10. I have shown it to Lakewood Alive. I also have calls into some of the folks in Buffalo who were involved in the book's creation to get more info. We have to do this for our city!

Hi Mary! It would be nice if it could be done at no expense to the businesses and then the money collected for the sale of the book could pay for the printing.

Westside Skates moved 1.5 blocks west to the House of Mastick building (14047 Madison) on New Years Eve and effectively opened on New Years Day. The new building is absolutely perfect for our needs of improving the best shop in Ohio. Future plans include a gallery/theater in the rear as well. And yes the parking is much better. Lakewood is still the best location for retail of my kind.

How cool Brian. I can't wait to see the new location and congratulations on a great move! Can you say anything more about the gallery/theater?

Brian the new place looks great from the outside. We'll certainly need to stop in once the weather improves as Hunter needs a new board. And it will be great to be able to park closer than a mile away. I am sure no one will miss the parking at the old place.
